Consumer Underwriter I

GENERAL SUMMARY

Responsible for consumer loan processing and underwriting activities. Provide support to branch consumer lenders.  Receive, decision, and distribute consumer loan applications. Working directly with branch MSO, Member Solutions and Lending Quality Control Staff. Obtain and verify documents as needed and information required to for making lending decisions within credit union policy and federal regulations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Process internet applications to determine credit worthiness through EFCU’s credit granting policies and procedures.
  • Distribute approved loans to the appropriate branch for final underwriting, collection of documents, cross sale of credit union products and disbursement of funds.
  • Complete Adverse Action in accordance with regulations for denied.
  • Responsible for monthly tracking of internet loan applications and Second Look Program.
  • Monitor and respond to lending emails.
  • Assist and support MSO staff as needed.
  • Evaluate loan applications from branch staff for possible loan re-structuring (Second Look Program).
  • Monitor and update rates for FH, In-House Mortgages, and Consumer Loans.
  • Work with Lending Quality Control in maintaining property taxes for loan validations.
  • Process HELOC closure and maintenance for deceased members or closed loans.
  • Work with Member Solutions and decision hardship extensions and process them for members who are in financial difficulties.
  •  Ability to E-Sign/Fund consumer loan applications.
  • Maintain current knowledge of all Credit Union policies and procedures including compliance with federal laws and regulations as set forth by the NCUA and other regulatory agencies.

ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS

  • Attend training courses, conferences and seminars as necessary.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

  • Requires professional, well-developed interpersonal skills for communicating with co-workers, members, and other individuals in the lending process.
  • Requires a highly motivated and organized individual with ability to prioritize and perform constantly changing multiple tasks in a high- paced team environment.
  • Requires at least one year of experience in lending with some training/knowledge of the consumer lending industry.
  • Strong decision-making, judgement and organizational skills.
  • Requires completion of high school education.
  • A team player and strong interpersonal skills are required due to constant interaction with staff, members, and ever-changing lending environment.
  • Requires intermediate mathematical skills.
  • Requires PC proficiency and knowledge of Office Suite.
