NEW Solutions connects experienced workers (ages 55+) with the National Park Service (NPS). These experienced professionals provide administrative expertise, facilities management, natural and cultural resource planning, and a broad array of other professional skills that support the National Park Service through the Experienced Services Program (ESP).

Positions listed here do not guarantee employment for any definite period. Enrollment in the Experienced Worker Programs administered by NEW Solutions is temporary. The enrollment relationship between NEW Solutions and the Enrollee is an ?at-will? relationship. This means that an Enrollee is free to terminate enrollment at any time during the enrollment period, and NEW Solutions and the Agency have the right to terminate the relationship with the Enrollee.

Qualifications:

AA/HS Degree with minimum additional experience of 5 year(s) in Administrative experience

  • Experience required with Windows, MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint
Duties:

This position will assist SHEN housing manager and park manager at Shenandoah National Park. They will assist with the collection of local market housing information, analyzing park staffing levels, and assembling information in data and narrative format into the NPS Housing Needs Assessment template. They will also support the park with data entry, report generation, data analysis, and other duties as assigned.

  • Conduct and collect local market research of gateway community housing rental stock by utilizing web-based platforms such as Zillow, Rent.com, Redfin, etc. Determine average housing costs and what is affordable to park staff at varying pay grade levels by using NPS managed Housing Tool excel spreadsheets. Work closely with regional and WASO Housing staff throughout the project to complete tasks and assist with providing a final deliverable overall Housing Needs Assessment document.    45%
  • Participate collaboratively and provide excellent customer service, effectively articulate verbally and in writing the results of market research and affordability to park staff. Assist park staff with documenting results into narratives recorded on final MS Word document template that will be reviewed and approved by regional and Washington staff. May be required to proof-read the work of others to assist with the completion of the final approved document.   35%
  • Assist with coordinating, scheduling, facilitating meetings and assignment of tasks and schedules to meet deadlines.   10%
  • Provide support to both regions as needed in other related areas. These may include data entry in software programs; providing technical assistance to parks in support of project development/condition assessments; creating and preparing correspondence; assisting with data analysis, report generation, etc. Complete other duties as assigned.   10%

Other:
  • Travel Requirements: Travel to Shenandoah National Park to meet with key staff.
  • Overnight travel: Travel once during the period of performance. Maximum of 3 nights.
  • Air travel anticipated: Travel once during the period of performance.
  • Physical requirements: Most work is primarily sedentary, utilizing word processor for extended periods. Field trips involve driving GOV for short periods, walking, and carrying equipment. Some physical exertion occasionally occurs for short distances on these field trips, and weather conditions and terrain will vary. There may be periods requiring intense concentration on a computer monitor. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position.
