Staff Accountant

The Staff Accountant is responsible for managing the accounts payable process and assists in preparing and providing management with a variety of financial data by analyzing, understanding, and processing such data efficiently. This position completes a variety of financial functions for the arena and to the highest degree of detail. Such financial functions include but are not limited to general ledger accounting, financial reporting, accounts receivable, accounts payable and internal audit.

Essential Functions:

  • Manages the accounts payable process and ensures payments are accurate and timely;
  • Oversees the Accounts Payable inbox and routes AP invoices for approval and processing;
  • Researches, investigates and properly codes Accounts Payable invoices;
  • Responds to internal and external accounts payable inquiries and follows up when appropriate;
  • Reviews and approves purchase order requests;
  • Ensures invoices are matched against the proper purchase orders and researches discrepancies;
  • Processes and records all corporate card transactions;
  • Prepares and distributes 1099 forms to company vendors and creates Tax Exemption forms;
  • Prepares and posts certain journal entries into the general ledger by analyzing relevant data;
  • Prepares daily cash and credit card deposits, completes cash control sheet on a daily basis, posts receipts and payments to the appropriate ledgers, spreadsheets, records, and databases
  • Compiles and inputs the daily/weekly/monthly financial reports relating to tickets, parking and food & beverage from events held at the American Airlines Center;
  • Assists with account receivable practices and procedures including creating invoices, GL projects and all other functions in relation to the accounts receivable system;
  • Prepares the flash reporting for event settlements on all arena events;
  • Assists in completing monthly balance sheet and bank reconciliations;
  • Reviews, investigates and corrects errors and inconsistencies in financial entries, documents and reports;
  • Provides audit support to various external auditors throughout the year;
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Education/Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from a four-year college in a related field (i.e. Accounting, Finance, or Business) is required
  • Proficient in MS Office software applications, specifically a higher degree of Excel skills required
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles
  • Ability to prioritize and process detailed data according to specific deadlines
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Knowledge of Microsoft GP Dynamics is desirable, in addition to the ability to learn new programs
  • Proficient in professional forms of communication including writing, reading, and speaking

  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time since most work is at computer work station;
  • Ability to see and review documents, invoices and presentations on computer or by hand;
  • Ability to walk, talk, and hear interactions with employees and vendors throughout facility;
  • Ability to use hands to create and edit documents by hand or by computer;
  • Ability to reach upward, or squat downward to reach contents of desk drawers & filing cabinets;
  • Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds;
  • Ability to work on-site, in an office setting, with the use of computers, phones, faxes, printers, etc.
