Maintenance Worker 1
Performs duties including mowing, trimming, and grounds keeping. Mowing, trimming, raking, and other operational duties required in the care of grounds. Performs minor building repairs, including electrical and plumbing repairs, keeping buildings and related facilities in good condition. May also paint, refinish woodwork, and other related building maintenance tasks. Operates lawn mowers, snow blowers, and trimmers, numerous other tools related to maintenance operations. Walks from building to building and from level to level via stairs and ladders to perform general cleaning and routine custodial duties, maintenance work, grounds clean up and care. Performs frequent moderate to heavy lifting in addition to bending, twisting, and reaching in the daily performance of maintenance duties.
- Graduation from high school or equivalent
- Some knowledge of general maintenance and labor duties involved in custodial and grounds keeping operations
- Knowledge of use and maintenance of various types of tools and equipment
- Ability to learn and follow safety precautions necessary in performing required duties
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions
- Ability to meet the physical requirements to perform all essential functions of this position and to be mobile in assigned maintenance duties
- Ability to obtain and maintain pesticide application license
- Ability to interact professionally and courteously with members of the public, user groups, and other departments
- Must possess current State of Iowa Driver’s License and/or CDL upon appointment to this position and maintain this license throughout employment; must be insurable by the City’s insurance carrier
- Must pass physical and drug screen following job offer.
- Must reside within 30 air miles of City limits within six months of hire.
