Maron Marvel has an immediate opening for a part time legal assistant to join its Charleston Office.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist in preparing a variety of litigation documents, such as pleadings, motions, briefs, and other related documents.
- Assist in filing legal documents with state and federal courts, including service of all documents upon parties and the Court, where required.
- Assist in the preparation and service of discovery and document productions.
- Track deposition calendar and maintain index of deposition summary memoranda.
- May be required to schedule and coordinate depositions, mediations, and other legal proceedings with court reporters, witnesses, outside counsel, opposing counsel and other parties, and maintain docket of litigation cases
- Experience handling multiple attorneys with full caseloads
- Assist with client engagement and retention, including preparation of engagement letter, conflict check, conflict waivers, and submitting information to open matters
- Provide overflow assistance as requested from different offices
Qualifications:
- High School diploma or its equivalent required, or Certificate or Degree from a Business School is preferred.
- Requires 3 to 5 years of legal secretarial, executive secretarial or secretarial administrative assistant experience, preferably with a large sized law or professional firm.
- Strong knowledge of court rules and litigation procedures.
- In depth knowledge of legal documents and terminology.
- Excellent time-management and organizational skills.
- Strong secretarial skills including typing, proofreading, spelling, grammar, and math.
- Ability to organize and prioritize workload and use own judgment in decision making on how to adequately and efficiently meet all deadlines.
- Ability to take the initiative in handling projects and anticipating what needs to be done.
