AQUATIC MANAGER

General Purpose

To serve as Aquatic Manager for Muskogee Parks and Recreation Department.  Oversees daily operations of River Country Family Water Park or Spaulding Pool (as assigned) for the Recreation Department.  This position is a seasonal, part-time position with the city of Muskogee.  Schedule includes a rotating schedule opposite another manager, covering 7 days per week (up to 40 hrs per week).  Must work entire season, May15-September 3.

Supervision

Under the direct supervision of the Aquatic Coordinator.

Essential Duties

Responsible for all aspects of daily/seasonal operations of River Country Water Park or Spaulding Pool.  Responsibilities include pre-season opening duties, pre-season staff training, daily operations, and post-season closing duties.  Responsible for management of assigned duties and achieving goals of daily and seasonal operation. Duties include-adequate staff, customer friendly atmosphere, quality and timely service, and a clean facility.  The aquatic manager reviews progress of operations and recommends and implements changes as needed.  The manager is responsible for the supervision of all water park staff including cashiers, lifeguards, and head lifeguard; as well as the safety of all patrons, program participants, and guests within the facility.  The manager is also responsible for daily scheduled activities, daily income reports, and safety standards required to meet state health codes. 

Responsibilities

1.         Ensure that the Aquatic Facility is adequately supervised and inform the Aquatic Coordinator when there are staff excesses or shortages.  Daily staff equals 24.  Total summer staff equals 50-60. 

2.         Reports to work 30 minutes prior to lifeguard staff.  Secures facility after closing duties are complete.  Always the last person to leave.   

3.         Ensure the entire facility and equipment is clean and safe, meeting state health codes. 

4.         Ensure that all reports and daily chemical logs are accurately kept.

5.         Train and supervise all aquatic staff, schedule weekly in-service training, and maintain certification of all staff.

6.         Responsible for daily admissions: supervise cashier staff and responsibilities of cashiers, maintenance of restrooms, securing daily income, handle customers/admissions/front gate.  Maintain a customer-friendly atmosphere at the admissions gate. 

7.         Secure daily income, start-up cash, bank deposits, and any money sales.

8.         Schedule routine maintenance checks and emergency maintenance.  Record all maintenance items and action taken in maintenance log book.  Follow-up on all recorded maintenance items. 

9.         Evaluate all staff and programs both verbally and in written format.  Staff member must be notified of any written action taken against them.  Disciplinary action must be done in private between           manager and staff member only.  Evaluate each staff member at close of season.

10.       Enforce all operation guidelines, staff guidelines, and written policies.

11.       Promote all pool programs through positive public relations.

12.       Willingness to accept responsibilities other than those specifically assigned.

13.       Must work rotating schedule opposite another manager; up to 40 hours per week.

            Must work through Labor Day weekend.   

Certifications and Skills

1.         Pro-Rescuer CPR Certification

2.         Lifeguard Training Certification

3.         WSI and/or LGI Certification

4.         Pool operating experience with chemistry and filtration knowledge.

5.         Knowledge of lifeguarding techniques and experience training and certifying lifeguards.      

6.         Ability to work with people of all ages.  A positive attitude and character.

7.         Ability to plan, lead, evaluate, hire staff, and organize.

8.         Ability to handle finances and reports.

9.         Ability to communicate in written and oral form.

10.       Ability to communicate with the public in a positive manner and remain calm in high stress or emergency situations.

11.       Preferred Experience:  2 years of supervisory experience, 2 years lifeguarding, 2 years head guard, associate’s degree or 2 years higher education

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk swim, sit, talk, and hear.  The employee is required to use hands and fingers, handle, feel, or operate objects, tools or controls; and reach with hands and arms.  The employee is required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.  The employee must occasionally lift, pull, push, and/or move heavy items.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee works in outside weather conditions.  Employees will be exposed to outside temperature ranging from 80-105 degrees.  The employee is exposed to hot, wet, and humid conditions.  The noise level in the work environment is usually loud in the field.  The employee is exposed to pool chemicals that must be handled with extreme caution.
