Solid Waste Collector

Job Summary:

Involved in the collection of refuse on designated route within municipality and dumps refuse from containers onto truck.  May drive truck.  May operate hoisting device to raise refuse bin and dump contents into opening in enclosed truck body.  Assists with disposal of refuse at landfill.  Cleans, sanitizes and performs routine maintenance checks on vehicles.  May assist in the repair and maintenance of residential and commercial dumpsters. 

 

Major Responsibilities:

  • Loads refuse, trash, and brush into a refuse collection truck
  • Clears debris from collection sites
  • Rakes trash and brush into piles and loads into packer
  • Cleans sanitation truck after completing daily route
  • Assists with routine maintenance on sanitation truck
  • Operates packing mechanism
  • Removes debris from bull pens and collection sites
  • Removes items cleared from roadways and set in public easements
  • Assists with right of way clearing to include vegetation upkeep
  • Maintain Grounds keeping for Spring Lake Campus
  • Performs other duties as assigned, including assisting other departments as required.

 

Minimum Qualifications & Required Knowledge:

  • High school graduate or GED
  • Ability to read, write and perform basic mathematical calculations
  • No experience requirements
  • Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of Oklahoma for the type of vehicle or equipment operated
  • Ability to read and interpret map and service areas.
  • Ability to prepare and interpret minutes and agendas.
  • Knowledge of safety rules and guidelines
  • Knowledge of city geography and roadways
  • Skill in the collection of residential refuse
  • Skill in interpersonal relations

 

This position meets the safety-sensitive criteria listed in 40 O.S. 544, or it is DOT regulated and thereby subject to random drug screenings as warranted.  This job classification has been designated as a safety sensitive job classification in accordance with the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana and Patient Protection Act, 63 O.S., § 427.1 et seq., (OSCN 2019), effective August 29, 2019. Employees in this job classification can be subject to disciplinary action up to and including termination if they test positive for marijuana components or metabolites, even if they possess a medical marijuana license.
