Director of Residences
Position Summary:
A NYC-based client is seeking an experienced Director of Residences to manage daily operations and elevate the level of service at their family’s luxury residences. This role is designed for an experienced private service professional with a strong background in managing private estates and delivering an exceptional level of personalized service.
The Director will be responsible for ensuring the residences are impeccably maintained, creating an atmosphere of seamless hospitality, and managing all aspects of the estate’s operations.
The Director of Residences will develop and execute an annual estate management plan, covering staff management, vendor relations, preventative maintenance, and guest services. This role requires a proactive, organized leader who can manage multiple priorities, anticipate needs, and deliver a highly tailored service experience.
The position is based in NYC, and requires travel to various residences and flexibility for after-hours availability.
Key Responsibilities:
- Full oversight of the principals’ luxury residences and private estates
- Act as the primary point of contact for the family and their Family Office team
- Lead and develop a team of household staff, including hiring, training, and mentoring staff
- Maintain and enhance household operations by implementing best practices in estate management and hospitality service
- Foster strong relationships with trusted vendors and contractors to ensure seamless service delivery
- Proactively manage preventative maintenance, special projects, and renovations with an emphasis on quality and efficiency
- Oversee the creation and management of household budgets, expense reports, and operational systems
- Develop and update household manuals, inventories, annual schedules, and operational procedures
- Ensure that all properties are always prepared and welcoming for the family and their guests, anticipating their needs at every turn
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a Director of Residences, Estate Manager, or similar high-level private service role with verifiable references
- A bachelor’s degree is preferred; relevant experience will be considered in lieu of a degree
- Highly professional, discreet, and able to maintain appropriate boundaries within a private household
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to manage relationships with the family, staff, and external partners
- Proven experience managing large-scale estate projects, including renovations and special events
- Exceptional organizational skills, with the ability to multitask, prioritize, and stay ahead of the family’s needs
- Demonstrated ability to develop household systems, procedures, and staff training programs
- Trustworthy, discreet, and able to exercise sound judgment in all situations
- Tech-savvy with proficiency in household technology, Mac and PC systems, MS Suite (Outlook, Excel), and household management software
- Hands-on approach with a willingness to perform or oversee tasks as needed.
- Ability to travel between various properties and provide on-call support as needed
Schedule:
Typically Monday through Friday with standard business hours, but requires flexibility for extended hours, weekends, and holidays, depending on the family’s needs.
Compensation:
Base salary range of $200,000 - $300,000 based on experience. A comprehensive benefits package is included, offering fully paid health insurance, paid time off (PTO), 8 paid holidays, and a retirement plan with matching contributions.
