NEW Solutions connects experienced workers (ages 55+) with the USDA Agricultural Research Service (ARS). These experienced professionals provide administrative, scientific, and technical support to the Agricultural Research Service through the Experienced Worker Program (EWP).

Qualifications: in N/A OR PhD Degree in Microbiology

Duties:The enrollee shall not sign federal documents, authorize the use of federal funds, nor initiate or conduct federally funded research projects. The enrollee shall not author articles for publication as a federal employee, nor coordinate scientific research between the Government and private industry. The enrollee shall not present themselves as a Government employee or Government representative at meetings both foreign and domestic or when coordinating federal agencies' areas of research. The enrollee shall not make decisions on federally based research on behalf of Government policy makers, and the enrollee shall not supervise any Government employees.
- The ABADRU Science Advisor serves in an advisory and leadership role for the planning and transition of the dual NP103 Lead Scientist virology program to the current Unit Senior Scientists. This includes the interpretation and analysis of program research under mission critical objectives, and documentation and reporting of completed research in peer-reviewed scientific journals and AgData Commons.

- Leads efforts to inventory and electronically catalog archival antibody stocks to serve as an ABADRU BSL-2 laboratory research resource. Plans and develops an electronic scientific records database to serve as an ABADRU scientific document resource. Facilitates the planning of overall objectives of an electronic database for Unit-stakeholder communication documents, including development of a variety of ARS-approved communications media for outreach activities.

- Keeps abreast of ABADRU research activities (federally conducted research and collaboration with industry) and serves as a senior scientific resource to advise on previous and still outstanding NP103 arboviral research gaps. Serves as a senior resource for information concerning microbiological and virological science aspects of research conducted in BSL-2 biological laboratories and BSL-2 Arthropod Containment Laboratories. 20%
- Participates in establishing a CGAHR Institutional Biosafety Advisory Committee, and serves as liaison in discussions with Kansas State University IBC regarding regulated research at CGAHR, KSU-IBC research registrations, location inspections, training record documentation requirements, and NIH-IBC Roster Registrations to ensure a smooth transition from ABADRU to CGAHR. 20%
