Water Laborer

Job Summary:

Under general supervision, installs, maintains, repairs, and services water distribution facilities.

 Major Responsibilities:

  • Assist with installation and repair of water lines and mains
  • Assist with installation of new service taps
  • Assist with line locates as needed
  • Assist with joining and fitting of pipelines and valves
  • Assist with repair of fire hydrants, valves, and individual service connections
  • Assist with maintenance of pumps, lift stations, water towers and associated equipment
  • Assist in the preparation of reports concerning work progress and other reports as assigned by the foreman or superintendent
  • Maintain safe work environment through continual observance of procedures and safety awareness
  • Maintain cleanliness of interior and exterior of facility by way of mowing; weed eating, sweeping, mopping, and general upkeep.
  • On an as needed basis perform traffic control, repair street and sidewalks, notify customers of service interruptions, and collect water samples.
  • Notify customers when assigned work affects service
  • Performs other duties as assigned, including assisting other departments as required.

Minimum Qualifications & Required Knowledge:

  • High school graduate or GED
  • Possession of or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire:
    • Class “D” ODEQ Waterworks Operator certification
  • Possession of or ability to obtain within 1 year of hire
    • Class “B” or higher Commercial Driver License

(Acquisition of CDL is an automatic upgrade to Maintenance Technician Level I)

  • Knowledge of relevant city, state, and federal laws, regulations, and policies
  • Knowledge of proper safety procedures related grounds maintenance
  • Knowledge of proper constructions methods and techniques, including the proper use and placement of traffic control devices
  • Skill in oral and written communication
  • Ability to work with hand tools and small equipment
  • Ability to work with motorized vehicles and equipment
  • Ability to be reached during off hours in the event of an emergency
  • Ability to read construction drawings, land plats, maps and other diagrams
  • This position meets the safety-sensitive criteria listed in 40 O.S. 544, or it is DOT regulated and thereby subject to random drug screenings as warranted.  This job classification has been designated as a safety sensitive job classification in accordance with the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana and Patient Protection Act, 63 O.S., § 427.1 et seq., (OSCN 2019), effective August 29, 2019. Employees in this job classification can be subject to disciplinary action up to and including termination if they test positive for marijuana components or metabolites, even if they possess a medical marijuana license.
