NEW Solutions connects experienced workers (ages 55+) with the USDA Agricultural Research Service (ARS). These experienced professionals provide administrative, scientific, and technical support to the Agricultural Research Service through the Experienced Worker Program (EWP).

Qualifications:BA/BS Degree in Journalism, Science Writing - 1) Writing and submitting award nomination packages.
- 2) Writing and submitting grants.
- 3) Feature writing for a print or online magazine.
- 4) Technical writing for a trade paper or magazine.
- 5) Beat writer for a print or online news paper (either local or national).
- Experience required with Windows, Apple Macintosh, MS Word
Duties:The Office of National Programs (ONP) Writer will manage the process for compiling, writing, and submitting application materials for ARS nominees for 10 external prestigious awards. These awards include the World Food Prize, Norman Borlaug Award for Field Research and Application, Wolf Prize in Agriculture, Frontiers Planet Prize, Samuel J. Heyman Service to America Medals, the NAS Prize in Food and Agriculture, the James Prize in Science and Technology Integration, the Arthur S. Flemming Awards, the Borlaug CAST Communication Award, and the New Innovator in Food and Agriculture Research Award. The writer will also support the Correspondence Management Unit in ONP with talking point development, speech writing, briefing paper development, report editing, and writing summary responses as requested by ARS or USDA leadership. The writer will also provide editorial training as needed for CMU staff. - Support the ONP Prestigious Awards Committees by coordinating the production of application materials for ten to twelve external prestigious awards per year. This involves working with the ARS External Awards committee chair, interviewing the nominee, writing/compiling/synthesizing the necessary materials for the awards, and submitting them for ARS Leadership clearance on time. The ability to incorporate edits and write with the appropriate tone/readability to meet leadership needs and as prize requirements is essential. 65%
- Support the Correspondence Management Unit with the development and editing of talking points, briefing papers, memos, speeches, reports, and/or other responses to meet requests. Writing with the proper ?tone? and ARS leadership ?voice? is required. 30%
- Provide editorial training needed by ONP CMU staff. 5%
Other:- USDA/ARS Employee required training typically found in AgLearn.
