Duties:The enrollee shall not sign federal documents, authorize the use of federal funds, nor initiate or conduct federally funded research projects. The enrollee shall not author articles for publication as a federal employee, nor coordinate scientific research between the Government and private industry. The enrollee shall not present themselves as a Government employee or Government representative at meetings both foreign and domestic or when coordinating federal agencies? areas of research. The enrollee shall not make decisions on federally based research on behalf of Government policy makers, and the enrollee shall not supervise any Government employees.
Physical requirements of position: The work is sedentary and may involve some walking, standing, bending, carrying of papers, etc. - Speechwriting: Drafts and clears public remarks for the ARS Administrator and other Senior Agency or Department officials that communicate Agency policies, plans, programs and objectives to a diverse set of audiences. 60%
- Content Generation: Working with subject matter experts across the Agency and Department to draft a steady stream of media content, such as blogposts, fact sheets, scripts for video and audio, features, social media posts, and editorials; content should clearly and concisely explain the goals, objectives, outputs and outcomes of Agency programs to a wide audience in a manner that is
engaging and informative. 20%
- Edits manuscripts, articles, and reports; rewrites for clarity and accuracy. Ensures that manuscripts and periodicals are consistent with USDA policies, U.S. Government Publishing Office style rules, and ARS standards. Advises researchers on matters of editorial style, format, composition of charts and tables, clearance, and distribution in a positive manner. Observes security procedures for preventing premature dissemination of forecast and statistical material for scheduled release. 10%
- Ensures movement of documents through the revision and clearance process, including ensuring the accuracy of documents required for the content management system posting process. This includes coordinating clearances and working with writers/technical researchers, technical staff, and clearance officials; and shepherding articles through multi-Agency approval; and reviewing the final publication. 10%
