Summary

Cochran’s Warehouse/Tool Room Assistant assists the Tool & Equipment Manager with various tasks, compiles and maintains records of warehouse activities by performing the following duties.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

The following are duties associated with being a Cochran Warehouse/Tool Room Assistant.  Other duties may be assigned:

  1. Manage all aspects of the tool tracking software. Create and manage user accounts and access levels, provide training to any new users, troubleshoot errors and work with the Business Intelligence Manager to ensure the validity of the back-end database for billing purposes. Provide feedback and guidance to reduce errors inadvertently created by users from the IT department and other Cochran locations.   
  2. Maintain tool tracking by inputting data in tool tracking software, create and build new tools, and update/edit tool information as needed. Build locations and cost centers for work orders, overhead numbers and vehicles. Create and manage new stock inventory locations as other Cochran offices expand.  Oversee and assist employees using the tool tracking program on a regional level.
  3. Assign tracking numbers and barcodes to trackable tools. Issue tracking numbers to the regional stock locations, including Oregon/Wenatchee/Spokane/Boise etc.., from the master list to eliminate the possibility of duplicate tracking numbers. Manage asset numbers and update item information required on the yearly asset spreadsheet.  Mark all tools and equipment with Cochran’s name and colors if applicable.
  4. Work with the field to provide solutions for fall protection, picking/lifting options, fiber and cable testing. Maintain general knowledge of fiber types, launch boxes, termination tools, data loggers and laser layout equipment in addition to other commonly requested items. Provide training for the use and operation of the Cochran-owned bucket truck.
  5. Set up and coordinate equipment rentals from various vendors. Issue and maintain any associated purchase orders. Resolve issues with equipment breakdowns, delivery/pick up, or any discrepancies in billing that may arise. Work with local vendors to maintain competitive and favorable contract pricing for rental equipment and associated freight costs. 
  6. Verify & input all invoices relating to tool & equipment purchases, rentals, vehicle service and repair in AP software.  Research rebates & apply for rebates.
  7. Coordinate the testing, calibration and repair of Cochran tools and equipment with field employees and vendors.
  8. Issue and maintain Purchase Orders for tools, equipment, rentals, consumables and field employees as needed. Communicate with Vendors and verify order acknowledgments relating to PO’s as required.
  9. Assist with fleet management by creating and maintain vehicle packets, ordering gas cards and updating databases.  Perform, monitor, and document random fleet vehicle inspections.
  10. Serve as a runner to deliver/pickup fleet vehicles for servicing, and acquire any locally sourced items including keys, cores, fleet startup supplies etc.
  11. Provide and modify building access via Lenel server. Issue building access cards, vehicle access tags, audit active card date ranges and remove or restrict access as needed. Access security footage to help identify missing items and/or theft.
  12. Assist shipping and receiving as needed.  Use vendor programs to create shipping labels, return labels and initiate LTL freight shipments.
  13. Arrange disposal of obsolete office equipment, and consumed batteries.
  14. Keep and maintain a digitized filing system for tool and equipment documentation.

Education/Experience

High School Diploma OR GED; or five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Ability

Ability to read and interpret documents.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

Math Ability

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense and understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form

Computer Skills

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Accounting software, and other software as may be required.

Certificates and Licenses

Driver’s license with clean driving history is mandatory.
