Veterinary Assistant lI

Keller Lake Animal Hospital is seeking a full-time or part-time veterinary assistant. We are open Monday through Friday, with no weekends and flexible scheduling.   We are proud to be an AAHA-accredited facility and will be working on becoming a Fear Free Certified clinic in 2025. Our team is a compassionate group of veterinary professionals. We LOVE our patients and do everything we can to make their visit fun. We have the BEST treats in the Twin Cities:)   Our clients are loyal, and we enjoy them as much as their pets. We are a full-service hospital providing in-house diagnostics, digital radiology (including dental), an onsite pharmacy, and a surgical suite. We also offer a feline-only waiting area and exam room to limit the stress on our feline patients.

Any Potential Veterinary Assistant Candidate will need to be able to do the following: 

- Can provide compassionate care to patients and clients. Displays excellent customer service.

- Can legibly keep accurate medical records in our practice management system. 

- Can answer multiple incoming phone calls efficiently while displaying a calm and positive demeanor, while also checking clients in and out at the front desk and attending to their needs.

- Can prepare and maintain the exam rooms, lobby, and treatment areas.

- Will work with fellow teammates to ensure all clients and patients are cared for promptly and adequately.

- Can effectively restrain pets; understanding canine and feline body language is a plus.

- Understands all standard vaccinations and vaccination protocols and can adequately explain to clients.

-Willingness to learn new skills and continue to grow with our team.

- Understands the importance of a clean and orderly facility and does not hesitate to clean or organize as part of a normal job duty. Completes assigned weekly cleaning duties.

- Can confidently handle client's medical questions and direct them to veterinarians when appropriate.

- Can prepare procedure estimates and discuss financial commitments with clients supporting hospital financial policies.

- Can give SQ, IM, and IV injections.

- Can explain necessary follow-up and home care instructions.

- Understands the usage, dosage, and common side effects of commonly used prescription drugs and can readily explain them to clients.

- Understand common pet emergency symptoms and can assist in triaging patients.

- Can assist the veterinarian in medical, surgical and dental procedures; prepares patients for surgery; administers anesthesia; monitors patients during surgery and recovery; administers fluids.

- Can properly care for all surgical materials; keep the operating room properly stocked and prepared for surgery.

- Can perform clinical laboratory procedures such as fecal flotation exams, heartworm checks, skin scrapings, urinalysis, and fungal cultures; draws blood for laboratory analysis; maintains a file of lab test results and ensures that test results are recorded in patient records.

- Can effectively position for and take radiographs.

- Can admit patients following hospital policy and doctors written orders.

- Can discharge patients based on the veterinarian's orders, ensuring that patients are well groomed and in a medically appropriate state.

- Can perform any other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience

- Experience with Cornerstone  (not required but is preferred)

- High School Diploma or GED

- Two to Three Years of experience in a veterinary hospital is preferred but not required. 

- Wage depends on experience
