Transportation Specialist
Summary
The Transportation Specialist will keep the Van Business moving forward “after-hours” by assuming the role responsibilities of Fleet Manager, Planner, and Customer Service Representative. Building and supporting Driver and Customer relationships by providing a high level of service, in an effective and efficient manner while meeting division objectives.
The hours are: 8:00 p.m. — 6:00 a.m. Monday—Thursday
Education and Experience
- Higher education (i.e. two- or four-year degree) in related area and/or two to three years of training in a related area and/or equivalent experience in a customer driven environment
- Must have experience in a customer driven environment.
- Experience in and or knowledge of the transportation industry preferred but not required.
- Management or supervisory experience preferred but not required.
- Must be self-motivated, able to multi-task and work independently.
- Must be a team player, flexible, and amenable to a variety of work projects.
- Must be able to demonstrate a proactive commitment to ATS corporate values and the success of all staff.
- Experience and ability to read a map.
- Experience in developing strong relationships (personal/practical needs) in order to effectively manage, plan, prioritize workload for fleet.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook) and internet (databases and research tools) required.
- Strong customer service, time management and math skills with a drive for results who can persevere in the face of resistance or setbacks in a fast paced environment.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills in order to implement logical conclusions and make well informed quick decisions.
- Strong communication skills (written, verbal, listening).
- Ability to work independently and self-motivated.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Fleet Management
- Develop effective working relationships, from a distance, built on trust and respect.
- Address and effectively resolve safety concerns, technology challenges, productivity, service interruptions and communication issues when they occur.
- Support balancing and managing the Driver’s professional and personal needs: DRI support and financial satisfaction while meeting ATS expectations.
- Lead, influence, and educate fleet on ATS Safety Culture to meet and/or exceed established Safety expectations.
- Be aware of and manage unsafe situations to minimize accidents, moving violations, and citations.
- Assist with Hours of Service, HOS questions and compliance challenges.
- Service Management
- Enters/edits loads in LME.
- Schedule appointments.
- Pre-call Shipper/Receiver to confirm apt, verify business hours, & check for Driver amenities.
- Monitors the progress of available and in-progress loads.
- Proactively reviews and edits ETAs and PTAs.
- Identifies and proactively communicates all service interruptions to Customers, Drivers, Fleet Managers and other internal ATS partners.
- Problem solve and trouble shoot loading and unload, utilizing available resources to manage load requirements; OD regulations, border regulations, port rules, customer specific driver qualifications, etc.
- Production Management
- Assign/Offer and dispatch loads, matching the needs, qualifications, and availability of customers, drivers, and equipment.
- Trailer Management; knowledge of the trailer network and ability to identify available trailers.
- Respect driver’s time by making sure their time at work is effectively utilized.
- Coordinate driver directional requests when appropriate.
- Manage down time while maintaining productivity.
- Log hour management and trip planning.

- Position may require work responsibilities outside of normal business hours, and infrequent travel may be required.
