Legal Assistant

The City of Branson is looking for a Legal Assistant.

In this role, you'll work closely with the City Prosecutor taking on a variety of tasks that are crucial to our legal processes.

From drafting legal documents and conducting research to assisting in trial preparation and managing case files, you will get to take part in bringing justice to the City.

What You'll Do:

  • Prepare for Court:  Draft a variety of legal documents, such as plea forms, witness lists, subpoenas, and probation revocation requests. 
  • Research:  Conduct research on case law, statutes, regulations, and legal articles.
  • Data Entry:  Enter, compile, and edit case files in a computerized database.
  • Answer Calls: Respond to inquiries from opposing counsel, defendants, insurance companies, city employees, and the general public.

Who We Need:  

  • Critical Thinker/Researcher:  Capable of analyzing information and can find relevant case law.
  • Detail-Oriented/Organized:  Accuracy and organization is crucial for the success of this position.
  • Skilled Communicator:  Strong verbal and written skills are important for interacting with attorneys, defendants, and citizens.

Requirements:  

  • A high school diploma or GED equivalent is required.
  • A Bachelor's Degree in law, criminal justice, legal studies, business, or other related degree is required. 
    • Directly related full-time work experience, as determined by the Department Director, of six (6) or more years of full-time employment may be considered in lieu of the degree requirement.  
  • Two (2) years of experience as a legal assistant, paralegal, or legal secretary is required. 
  • Completion of a certified legal assistant or paralegal program is preferred.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:  The starting hourly wage is $22.35 per hour and will increase to $23.24 per hour after 6 months of successful probation

WORK LOCATION:   City of Branson, Missouri; City Hall.  This is an in office position requiring work to be performed onsite.  
 
WORK HOURS:        Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm; Occasional After Hours Needed
 
MISCELLANEOUS REQUIREMENTS
  • At least 18 years of age.
  • Ability to keep private, confidential, and sensitive information.  
  • Skill in time management by prioritizing tasks and meeting deadlines.
  • Proficient in Microsoft products to include Word, Excel, and Outlook. 
  • Possess a valid driver's license and be insurable under the City of Branson's motor vehicle coverage when operating a vehicle as a part of the position. 
  • Act safely and follow safety standards while at work. 
  • Possess no felony convictions at any time while employed by the City of Branson. 
  • Be able to pass a background investigation and drug and alcohol screenings.
