FLEET MANAGER
POSITION INFORMATION
The Fleet Manager is responsible for balancing the needs of drivers and maximizing production, by being held accountable for all aspects of service once dispatched on a load. To ensure high quality and profitable operation of the division by coordination the personal, performance, training and service needs of an assigned group of drivers. To motivate and retain drivers in accordance with company and departmental quality, utilization and profit objectives.
BASIC RESPONSIBILITIES
- Coach and manage a fleet of drivers to ensure on-time delivery performance and fleet profitability.
- Demonstrate and advocate Warren’s Safety First culture
- Develop relationships with drivers to improve performance and encourage retention.
- Accountability for on-time pickup/delivery percentages, out-of-service percentages, miles per month per truck, operator turnover percentages, revenue per truck per week.
- Interact with contractors, Warren employees, and vendors via face to face, phone, email, or instant messaging communication.
- Selling load opportunities to operators.
- Assumes ownership for each load from the point of dispatch to the point of delivery.
- Display sense of urgency and intensity to quickly and accurately achieve goals.
- Dispatches complete and accurate load information at all times. Communicates customer expectations to operator.
- Coordinate with Load Planning personnel to obtain loads that meet driver and customer needs.
- Satisfies all border crossing, port loading or other unique requirements.
- Manages the personal, training, and service needs of an assigned fleet of operators.
- Coordinates operator’s service-related needs to monitor service issues (i.e., permits, service failures, tickets) by proactively minimizing and resolving problems.
- Manages DOT-related issues by coordinating compliance with log hours, and other safety-related matters, providing direction and ensuring scheduled completion and or resolution.
- Demonstrate and advocate Warren’s Safety First Culture
- Knowledge, understanding and practice of following all laws, regulations, and rules.
- Recommends and implements appropriate plans for improvement where necessary.
- Recognizes situations when load attributes are outside of standard legal dimensions, facilitates ordering of special allowance permits.
- Locates and secures load opportunities to maximize utilization of specialized equipment
- Understand dimensions and specifications of various specialized equipment to coordinate optimal utilization.
- Supply appropriate equipment and trailers to customer according to Warren’s business needs.
- Understand proper cargo securements methods and materials.
- Communicates fleet needs with internal partners, such as planning facilitator. Advocating for driver when needs are not met.
- Notifies CSR and planners if assistance is necessary to help resolve issues.
- Communicates with internal partners when there are changes to a load.
- Coordinates Y-splits with Load Planner.
- Meets or exceeds CPM, RWT, and driver turnover percentage goals.
- Performs other duties, tasks, or responsibilities as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Four year college degree from an accredited institution, or equivalent work experience preferred.
- Excellent communication skills, verbal and written.
- Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills.
- Ability to negotiate.
- Motivated to achieve both company and personal goals.
- Proficient computer and internet skills (Microsoft Office products, Word and Excel).
- Able to build rapport quickly

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. This is largely a sedentary role; however, some filing is required. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand on a stool as necessary.
