NEW Solutions connects experienced workers (ages 55+) with the National Park Service (NPS). These experienced professionals provide administrative expertise, facilities management, natural and cultural resource planning, and a broad array of other professional skills that support the National Park Service through the Experienced Services Program (ESP).

Positions listed here do not guarantee employment for any definite period. Enrollment in the Experienced Worker Programs administered by NEW Solutions is temporary. The enrollment relationship between NEW Solutions and the Enrollee is an ?at-will? relationship. This means that an Enrollee is free to terminate enrollment at any time during the enrollment period, and NEW Solutions and the Agency have the right to terminate the relationship with the Enrollee.

PLEASE NOTE: An ?Enrollee? is not a federal employee, nor an employee of NEW Solutions. An ?Enrollee? is a participant in a grant program established through a Cooperative Agreement funded by the agency and administered by NEW Solutions.

Qualifications:

Minimum of 2 year(s) of experience in drafting policy, technical, or instructional documents; making documents compliant with Section 508 or other digital accessibility standards. OR BA/BS Degree in Law Enforcement or related, preferably through USPP

  • Experience working with law enforcement agencies on policy matters is preferred; two to five years experience writing, developing, and reviewing policy is required; strong writing and grammar skills are required; ability to digitize forms and documents including making existing documents 508 compliant is required; successful paralegal experience would be an asset. This person must be very organized, able to successfully multi-task, and able to manage the stress associated with coordinating a variety of projects simultaneously. They should also be comfortable with the collaborative process.
  • Experience required with Windows, MS Word, MS Excel, Power Point
  • Proficiency with Adobe Acrobat Pro; Office 365; and Sharepoint is required.
Duties:

The enrollee will provide assistance reviewing and recommending changes to standard operating procedures, agreements, and various other park specific documentation for the National Park Service (NPS) park units: George Washington Birthplace National Monument (GEWA) and Thomas Stone National Historic Site (THST). This will include drafting planning documents and guidance memos; assisting with coordinating the internal policy review process; and other administrative duties as assigned including online filing, organization, and development of collaborative software such as Google drive and Microsoft Office 365.

  • Writing policy documents which may include working with subject matter experts to draft revisions to existing policy or developing new policy documents for review and approval. This position will spend the vast majority of their time authoring and editing documents, reviewing and developing various forms (including conversion of hardcopy forms to an electronic format); and making existing documents compliant with Section 508 as required by Federal law.   90%
  • Reviewing existing GEWA/THST documents to ensure currency with applicable departmental, bureau, and existing NPS guidance.   10%

  • Travel Requirements: A brief visit to tour GEWA/THST (Colonial Beach, VA & Port Tobacco, MD)
  • Overnight travel: Trip to park may be multiple days
  • Air travel anticipated: Depending on enrollee location, air travel may be required
  • Rental cars: Depending on enrollee location, a rental vehicle may be required
  • Physical requirements: Work is primarily sedentary and performed in an office environment. Candidate must be able to work at a computer for an extended period of time; able to type for long periods of time; comfortable reading and working from a computer screen.
