? The BLM Experienced Services Program is a unique partnership created to help solve the workforce issues facing government agencies. The program connects experienced workers (age 55+) to the BLM to provide scientific, technical, and administrative support.
? BLM ESP positions are meant to provide temporary, project-based support. This position is estimated to last 1-2 months.
? A background security investigation may be required prior to the start date. Only those positions with 30+ hours per week are eligible for health insurance benefits; all positions will accrue sick leave.
? The experienced workers participating in the Program are referred to as ?Enrollees? and are not employees of the BLM or NEW Solutions. NEW Solutions is the ESP non-governmental organization responsible for administrative aspects of the program, and the Enrollees work under BLM direction to assist the Agency staff in carrying out their mission. BLM ESP Enrollees benefit from the opportunity to keep technical skills current; to access new training opportunities; to engage in gainful project-based positions; and to undertake meaningful tasks using their experience and talent to contribute to the environment, the national economy, and their own financial security.

Duties:This Administrative Assistant position assists the district office with processing documents for procurement and contracting, entering and processing employee travel, reconciling credit card statements, processing monthly financial reports, processing deposits, and managing employee time reporting and payroll. Additionally, this position provides support for the front desk public contact position. The Administrative Assistant is also the backup for mail and other office related functions. - Budget and Finance - Practical knowledge of various budget/financial regulations, policies, practices, and procedures in order to monitor and track obligations, review data, consolidate provided information into summaries and/or reports, identify recurring budgetary issues, Specific knowledge of or experience with using automated financial systems 10%
- Procurement - Knowledge of standardized administrative and procurement principles, practices, and procedure 25%
- Application/Database Support - Ability to use various types of computer programs to maintain and retrieve information from automated applications/data systems 20%
- Travel - Knowledge of automated travel systems, in order to properly prepare and complete accurate travel authorizations and vouchers and review travel records to ensure they are processed correctly. 20%
- Public Contact - Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing in order to present information in easy to understand formats that increase understanding of Bureau programs, policies, and objectives. Ability to operate a multi-line telephone system. 25%
Other:- Some software programs require annual/regular recertification and yearly ethic training.
- Internal BLM software operations will have basic instruction training
- Health and Safety Considerations: Risk Management training will be completed for all tasks with this position
- Physical requirements: This is primarily an in-office position which entails sitting or standing to work at a computer station, answering the switchboard, working inside on a daily basis, and walking on flat, dry surfaces. Some lifting and bending is required. Organizing supply closets, and filing systems.
