The Agricultural Conservation Experienced Services (ACES) Program offers unique opportunities in Scientific, Technical, and Agricultural support for individuals aged 55 and over to support the Department of Agriculture?s Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) through a grant administered program awarded to National Experienced Workforce Solutions (NEW Solutions). The ACES program provides an opportunity to work side-by-side with NRCS staff that are doing important work every day. Qualifications:

Minimum of 20 year(s) of experience in Planning and implementing agricultural and natural resource management programs on grazing lands. A background of working directly with customers (agricultural producers) in conservation planning, including inventory, assessment and monitoring of grazing land conservation practices are necessary to complete the duties. Operational skills with NRCS's grazing lands technical tools, including HRH, PCS, ESDs and NRI are a requirement. OR MA/MS Degree in Agriculture, Animal Husbandry.

  • Experience required with Windows, MS Word, MS Excel
Duties:

This position will assist the Ecological Science Division at NHQ, associated NRCS Technical Centers, and states throughout the United States. This position will require the enrollee to work independently and remotely throughout the service area and engage directly with USDA customers and NRCS staff. The incumbent will be required to communicate effectively with the various NRCS field operations staff and with agricultural producers and livestock ranchers in those area about the specific projects being planned, implemented and monitored. Activities include training, gathering, assessing, and planning in assisting NRCS staff in evaluating and monitoring natural resource concerns which will be identified in conservation plans and future Farm Bill contractual agreements

  • Provide training, mentoring and coaching to less-tenured staff that are assigned to work within the grazing program area on NRCS's inventory, assessment, planning and monitoring processes   50%
  • Assist in inventorying, assessing, planning and monitoring of conservation practices, including use of NRCS's inventory, assessment, planning and monitoring technical tools for the grazing lands program, including GRAS, PCS, ESDs, and NRI.   30%
  • Assist in technical data gathering (in field and office) and assembly for conservation plans and Farm Bill contract participation throughout the United States.   10%
  • Assist the National Grazing Lands Discipline Lead with other activities that support Farm Bill Program planning, implementation and monitoring as needed.   10%

  • Travel Requirements: Occasionally to satisfy the duties of the position.
  • Overnight travel: Approximately 1 trip per month.
  • Air travel anticipated: Approximately 1 trip per month.
