Director of IT Applications

Opportunity:

The Director of IT Applications is a key leadership role that is responsible for the planning, building, deploying and alignment of the Applications team capability which includes ATS team members and 3rd party providers. The ability to foster effective working relationships with other leaders in the IT Organization is a critical success factor, especially with peer Directors and the CIO.

Scope of Responsibility & Leadership:

  • Develops department budget and goals, monitors for achievement, and strategizes with others to proactively ensure goals are met and the budget is effectively managed.
  • Drives continuous improvement efforts for ongoing efficiency and effectiveness within own department and across ATS.
  • Collaborates with the team and utilizes benchmarks and best practices to determine direction for maximizing growth and at the same time, managing risk.
  • Identifies and manages capability gaps and ensures accurate documentation of systems and resiliency and redundancy are maintained.
  • Designs and facilitates tests and exercises to prepare and be able to react to and mitigate any system crisis.
  • Collaborates with peers to establish process uniformity across the division and ATS and manages change effectively for sustainable solutions.
  • Prepares and supplies management with analyses/reports/resource estimates to ensure system effectiveness and security are aligned with growth plans.
  • Develops strong working relationships with others throughout the entire organization; utilizing partnerships to help each area succeed and maximize ATS results.
  • Continuously seeks to improve departmental quality, efficiency, and productivity standards by creating, updating, and revising company processes, tools, and resources, (i.e., forms, procedures, technologies, and motivational strategies).
  • Build a department aligned with strategy and workflow; forecasting future talent needs and ensuring the stability of the current team.
  • Provide effective employee performance management utilizing SMART goals, constructive feedback, coaching for improvement, and progressive discipline.
  • Partner with Human Resources to recruit, interview, select, onboard, and train new employees to create a positive candidate experience. 
  • Plan, delegate, organize, and manage the workflow of staff members to ensure high performance.
  • Ensure that the applications strategy incorporates structures, standards, processes, documentation, and reporting that fit the needs of the company and puts emphasis on quality decision-making and timely application service delivery.
  • Own and drive the communication channels to senior management and stakeholders of IT Applications.
  • Maintain technical knowledge through continuing education by attending workshops, reviewing publications, and establishing personal networks.
  • Serves as a role model and demonstrates, by their actions, ATS's Mission, Vision, and Values in a consistent, effective, and reliable manner.
  • Support ATS' culture by aligning actions, behaviors, performance, and decisions following the Company's values as outlined in our All-Employee Competencies.
  • Carry out managerial and leadership responsibilities following ATS' policies and applicable laws.
  • Perform key All-Director Responsibilities; Drive the Business Forward, Build the Bench Strength, Institute System Accountability, and Exhibit Organizational Leadership. 
  • Complete work responsibilities outside of normal business hours as needed and infrequent travel may be required. 

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science or related technical discipline; and 5-7 years of experience leading a staff involved with IT infrastructure (servers, desktop support, networks, cyber security, etc.); or equivalent combination of education and experience in the industry.
  • Experience leading in a complex Applications infrastructure (e.g. multiple companies).
  • Highly preferred that some or all this experience be in transportation with asset-based and or logistics IT management.
  • Strong knowledge of budgeting, forecasting sales, profit & loss statements and accounting required.
  • Great customer service, communication, and transparency required.
  • Expert knowledge of Application Development, Integration, and Application Portfolio life cycle best practices.
  • Demonstrated experience in team building and collaboration with business leaders, third parties as well as internal staff.
  • Ability to perform effectively under guidance or limited assistance from functional leadership.
  • Strong interpersonal skills; able to establish trust and rapport with all levels of staff.  Able to relate effectively to diverse cultures.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage and prioritize workload in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong planning and problem-solving skills; able to identify and resolve problems promptly.  Able to gather and analyze information and develop alternative solutions.
  • Strong computer proficiency with Microsoft Office; Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Outlook.  Able to learn company-specific programs.
  • Must demonstrate a proactive commitment to ATS corporate values and the success of all staff.
  • Proven leadership and management capabilities in a fast-paced, changing, and growing environment with demonstrated potential for growth.
