Duties:Provides writing/editing support to NIFA?s Director, Associate Directors, Chief of Staff and
Communications Director. Serves as confidential advisor and resource person to the Office of the
Director in support of their communication activities.

- The incumbent works in close coordination with the NIFA Director, Associate Directors (AD), Chief
of Staff (COS) and Communications Director and has a primary role in the following: gathering and
communicating about NIFA and impacts of NIFA funded projects, specialized communication to the REE
mission area, specialized communication to the Office of the Secretary, writing and editing of products and services used to convey information to specialized publics; communicating information
about NIFA and NIFA-funded projects.

- Writing and collaborates by participating in the planning, editing, and clearance of NIFA
information (for internal and external use). Works closely with subject matter experts in NIFA
programs (personnel: deputy directors, division directors, national program leaders, and program
specialists) in producing information about NIFA for data calls, briefing memos and other internal
requests. These duties include coordinating interviews with subject-matter experts in NIFA
programs, searching databases and other publicly available sources to gather information for communication materials.

- Edits, writes, and rewrites materials on a wide variety of topics, including land-grant
universities activities, for diverse and targeted audiences ensuring concise, clear, and succinct
materials appropriate for the agency. These products explain NIFA programs in technical terms and
accomplishments; provide information concerning the processes of NIFA; and contributes generally to the communications component of the NIFA strategic plan.

- Works closely with the Communications Director to ensure the final products meet the consistency of
format and presentation expected, and if required, that approvals for release have been obtained.

- As required, participates in training of program personnel for handling requests for information
regarding IFA programs included in data calls, briefing memos and other REE or USDA requests.
