Duties:

Provides high level expertise in support of engineering services planning for Klamath River Basin Wildfire Crisis Strategy (WCS) Landscape projects. Knowledgeable in principles of transportation planning and analysis to accomplish reconnaissance design, and construction procedures to meet coordination and contract needs.

  • Conduct standard road conditions surveys/logs which should include an evaluation of the condition of the roadway surface and shoulders, drainage, vegetation, structures, barriers, signs, and traffic control devices. Records data collected to provide for civil engineering project designs, construction, reconstruction, and realignments. Prepare engineering reports and recommends priorities roads, which are used in the formulation for project planning.   30%
  • Prepare standard road maintenance packages for projects using applicable provisions and T-specifications.   20%
  • Prepare detailed road specification packages for road construction and realignments which includes but not limited to quantities, costs, drawings, plans, provisions, schedule of items, and supplemental specifications in accordance with Standard Specifications (FP-14).   20%
  • Performs flagging and staking layout settings for construction, reconstruction, and realignment of roads, in accordance with the specified road package.   20%
  • Inspects road construction, reconstruction, realignment, and road maintenance contracts to ensure compliance with the terms and conditions of the contract.   10%

  • Information awareness security training on-line.
  • Travel Requirements: Travel will be required to access areas proposed for treatment in the field. Some travel to Klamath NF SO to meet with FS personnel and to discuss/download information.
  • Overnight travel: One overnight per trip may be required.
  • Air travel anticipated: Up to three trips may be required for site visits.
  • Rental cars: Up to three trips may be required for site visits.
  • Health and Safety Considerations: A Job Hazard Analysis will be required to be read and signed prior to initiating any field work. Personnel will be required to have a current driver's license to drive vehicles for the project.
  • Required Safety Gear: Hard hat, leather boots (at least 8" height), long pants
  • Safety Gear Use: Personnel engaged in field work must wear a hard hat, leather boots and long pants when on field assignment.
  • Physical requirements: Walking on roads, hiking over obstacles, rocks, and down logs. Working during temperature extremes of very cold temps to very hot temps during summer months. Exposure to hot sun, rainstorms, snow, etc. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position.
