Qualifications:

Minimum of 15 year(s) of experience in information management, specifically working with collections, archives, or libraries. Certificates in Arrangement & Description from Society of American Archivists or similar accreditation. OR BA/BS Degree in MA/MS in Archival Science, Library and Archive Studies, Archives and Records Administration, History and Archives, Library and Information Science, or related fields; BA/BS Archival Science, History, Library Science, Political Science, Public Administration, or related fields.

  • Significant experience in archival principles and techniques, finding aids, and other research tools.
  • Experience required with Windows, MS Word, MS Excel
Duties:

The incumbent will perform archival duties involving reference, arrangement, description, evaluation, and preservation and rehabilitation of historic materials housed at the United States National Arboretum. This position will assist in the overall organization, deposition, and preservation of archival material. The incumbent will engage with researchers, staff, and stakeholders preparing books, exhibits, and programs in preparation for the National Arboretum?s centennial. The incumbent reports to the Museum Specialist in charge of collection management within the Gardens and Education Unit.   • Prepare internal finding aids such as cross-reference sheets, shelf lists, and locator indexes. Identify and describe series within collections in terms of subject, chronology, volume, and internal arrangement.   70%
  • Review boxed material collected from various sources, sorting them according to categories and series established by Museum Specialist.   25%
  • Assist in proper deposition of materials in storage areas, material transfer, and disposal.   5%
