Summary
The primary objective of the Dock Attendant is to oversee the merchandise sales and watercraft rental operations in a public recreation area. The Attendant greets, assists, and informs visitors about the safe operation of watercraft, sells retail goods, and collects recreation use fees as they may apply. The Attendant will maintain the safety, cleanliness, and cash control of the assigned area of responsibility.
Essential Functions
- Greets customers in a friendly, courteous manner and sets a good example for visitors and fellow employees.
- Represents the company in a professional manner; maintains a well-groomed appearance, wearing the company uniform at all times.
- Operates a concession outlet, greets visitors, and is knowledgeable and able to answer visitor questions.
- Collects recreation use fees, maintains the safety and security of the marina and dock areas, helps control parking, boat ramp areas, and picnic areas, where applicable.
- Maintains administrative logs, receipts, cash register tapes, and other data as may be required.
- Checks boats thoroughly for any damage and cleans and refuels boats upon their return.
- Ensures boats are properly secured before leaving for the day.
- Keeps mechanics apprised of all units in need of repairs and/or parts.
- Performs routine marina maintenance duties, which include manual labor consisting of cleaning boats, equipment, marina facilities, and keeping the marina area free of litter.
- Operates all rental watercraft and is able to adequately instruct rental customers about the proper and safe operation of rental watercraft according to U.S. Coast Guard safety standards; ensures guests are fitted with proper life jackets.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Familiar (or willingness to become familiar) with all company and partnering agency policies and guidelines regarding permitted concession areas.
- Available for duty during weekends, holidays, and peak visitation periods. Weekly work schedules will be developed and posted by local management.
- Strong customer service skills; enjoys working in an environment of extensive public contact.
- Must be able to perform duties in an aquatic environment and possess the physical skills to enter and exit moored watercraft, which may be somewhat unstable.
- Possess good communications skills, a courteous demeanor, and a helpful attitude.
- May be subject to excessive heat conditions.
