Qualifications:

Minimum of 20 year(s) of experience OR BA/BS Degree in Agriculture, natural resources, agronomy or related field of study.

  • At least 10 seasons direct aerial survey flight Professional Experience and 20 years or
  • more experience within federal aviation program(s).
  • Inter-agency Aviation Training for FHP Aircrew Member certified.
  • Experience required with ARCVIEW (GIS)
  • FHP's DMSM aerial survey software, Desktop ArcGIS, ArcGIS Pro.
Duties:

Enrollee functions as an expert in forest health aerial detection surveys which requires forest damage signature identification and geospatial mapping from small, fixed-wing aircraft.

  • Participating in and conducting aerial detection survey mapping efforts and post-mission data cleaning/validation efforts.   50%
  • Mentoring and training new aerial survey staff to support their development and competency in detecting and mapping insect and disease aerial signatures.   25%
  • Training completion to be qualified to collect aerial survey data to National standards within FHP aerial survey taskbook and as required from Interagency Aviation Training center.   25%

  • Inter-agency Aviation Training for FHP Aircrew Member certified. See https://www.iat.gov/ DMSM training as-needed and provided through Forest Health Assessment and Applied Sciences Team.
  • Rental cars: If needed, these will be procured through local unit to support Aviation missions.
  • Health and Safety Considerations: Inter-agency Aviation Training for FHP Aircrew Member certified. See https://www.iat.gov/ Additionally, pre-season annual hearing test for aviation safety needs to be completed. Noise canceling.
  • Required Safety Gear: Noise canceling aviation headset provided by FHP
  • Safety Gear Use: Noise canceling aviation headset will be used in a fixed wing aircraft during forest health flights.
  • Physical requirements: The work is primarily sedentary. However, some walking, bending, or carrying of light items may be involved. Requirement to be in small fixed-wing aircraft without sustaining incapacitating motion sickness. Ability to see sufficient color differentiation for damage mapping. Also, pre-season hearing test requirement for aviation safety. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position.
