The Agricultural Conservation Experienced Services (ACES) Program offers unique opportunities in Scientific, Technical, and Agricultural support for individuals age 55 and over to support the Department of Agriculture?s Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) through a grant administered program awarded to National Experienced Workforce Solutions (NEW Solutions). This is a unique program where your talents, expertise, and experience will truly be valued. The ACES program provides an opportunity to work side-by-side with NRCS staff that are doing important work every day. The enrollment relationship between NEW Solutions and the Enrollee is an "at-will" relationship. This means that an Enrollee is free to terminate enrollment at any time during the enrollment period, and NEW Solutions and the Agency have the right to terminate the relationship with the Enrollee. Qualifications:

Minimum of 20 year(s) of experience in Natural Resources Management/Watershed OR BA/BS Degree in Natural Resources, Soil Forestry, Land Management, Agriculture, Agronomy or related.

  • Valid State Driver?s license;
  • Experience required with Windows, MS Word, MS Excel
  • ACCESS, HANA, NRCS Software, PowerPoint
Duties:

Assist the watershed programs staff in gathering, analyzing, and interpreting relevant data to evaluate natural disasters and quantify environmental outcomes. Makes sound technical recommendations based on analysis results and utilizes expert knowledge of conservation programs and policy. Works with staff and other NRCS Subject Matter Experts to provide guidance and obtain progress reports on projects and natural disaster assignments.

  • Assist in inventorying, assessing, planning, and monitoring natural disaster conservation practices, including the use of NRCS's inventory, assessment, planning, and monitoring.   30%
  • Assists the NRCS Watershed program with natural disaster activities that support planning, implementation, and monitoring as needed.   30%

Other:
  • Annual information system security, anti-harassment, and civil rights training.
  • Travel Requirements: Travel to and from the State where the natural disaster occurred, lodging and per diem paid through the NRCS agreement
  • Overnight travel: Assignment dictates the position must be on site for a period of time and will vary.
  • Air travel anticipated: Travel to and from the State where the natural disaster occurred, approximately once each 30 days
  • Rental cars: Position will travel with NRCS employees in a GOV.
  • Health and Safety Considerations: Work is primarily performed in environments where natural disasters have occurred. Work may require traversing steep terrain with prolonged standing, walking over uneven ground, and exposure to weather element conditions. Conditions are not currently in ?active?, however, there may be areas that are considered ?active? and could present risk. Any required PPE is provided and must be worn while working in these areas.
