Commercial Sales Manager

Opportunity Overview:

The Commercial Sales Manager within ATS, Inc. will provide leadership to the assigned sales team and be accountable for managing, developing, and supporting Business Development Managers. Responsible for implementing sales goals and action plans to grow revenue and expand the client base. Oversee and coordinate team activities to drive performance, profitability, and growth aligned with company vision and values. Lead successful customer onboarding and guide recurring business reviews to ensure long-term success. A key focus of this role is to actively drive sales by ensuring consistent pipeline development, fostering strong customer relationships, and identifying new opportunities for strategic growth. Additional responsibilities include recruiting, interviewing, and hiring top talent to strengthen the team. 

Scope of Opportunity:

  • Sales and customer relationship management responsibilities; support Business Development Managers grow pipeline though activities, convert opportunities to new customers, the new customer onboarding experience and participate in quarterly business reviews.  

  • Communicate sales strategies and goals, aligning employee effort in pursuit of department objectives; lead the sales team in building and managing customer relationships and meet/exceed targeted revenue and profit goals for team. 

  • Assist Business Development Managers in closing new business and expanding existing accounts by providing strategic guidance and supporting key customer engagements online or in-person. 

  • Customer Relationship Management responsibilities; serve as a point of problem escalation and resolution. 

  • Provide effective employee performance management utilizing SMART goals, constructive feedback, coaching for improvement, and progressive discipline; design and implement on-going training for current employees; recommend development plan priorities for individual employees of the team and monitor progress against development priorities. 

  • Partner with Human Resources in the recruiting, interviewing, selection, on-boarding, and training of new employees.    

  • Provide guidance to Business Development Managers working through contracts with counsel.  

  • Demonstrates employee performance management, training and coaching, recognition, and reward skills. 

  • Work with team to make outbound follow-up calls to existing and potential customers and email to pursue quality business opportunities. 

  • Assist Business Development Managers with opportunity and pricing reviews, collaborate with pricing and other divisions within the organization as needed. 

  • Function consistently, effectively and reliably in accordance with the Company's values as set forth in our core competencies and behaviors to foster ATS's culture (All Managers Competencies). 

  • Perform key All-Manager Responsibilities; Deliver high business results, Build the right team, develop talent for growth and manage for optimal performance. 

  • Position may require work responsibilities outside of normal business hours, and regular travel, including overnights as needed.  

Preferred Skillset for Success: 

  • Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university; or 2-3 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience in the transportation and logistics industry. 
  • Three to five years sales experience in the transportation industry with strong working knowledge of operations, logistics, and transportation principles. 
  • One to two years of supervisory experience preferred.   
  • Basic knowledge of budgeting, forecasting sales, profit & loss statements required.  
  • Strong interpersonal skills; able to establish trust and rapport with all levels of staff.   
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage and prioritize workload in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Excellent communication skills (written, listening and verbal). 
  • Ability to negotiate skillfully in challenging situations with both internal and external customers. 
  • Strong planning and problem-solving skills; able to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner.   
  • Able to gather and analyze information and develop alternative solutions.  
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word and Outlook) and the internet (internet database and research tools). 
  • Excellent communication skills including presentation, written, listening and verbal skills. 

ATS Compensation & Benefits:

  • The base salary range for this position is $70,000 to $105,000 plus position specific, performance-based incentive program.  First year incentive earnings include the greater of a 12-month training incentive of $3,000/month ($36,000) or actual incentives earned.  Base salary offered is determined by relevant experience, education, certifications, and geographic location as compared to others doing substantially similar work.
