Job Title: Intern – Risk Management

Reports To: Internal Audit Manager and General Counsel

Supervisory Responsibilities: N/A

Job Summary: The Risk Management Intern supports the audit team in enhancing and protecting company value by providing objective, risk-based insights and assurance. This role assists in evaluating and improving governance, risk management, and control processes through a systematized approach. The intern will engage in company culture and contribute to organizational objectives through hands-on learning and collaboration.  

Essential Functions:

Job Specific:

  • Support the audit team in conducting audits of bank business activities to identify risks and assess the effectiveness of related controls.
  • Assist in identifying potential findings and communicate observations with audit leadership for further review.
  • Demonstrate a foundational understanding of risk and control concepts, as well as process and control documentation.
  • Accurately and clearly document audit procedures, observations, and results.
  • Perform retesting as needed to verify the remediation of previously identified issues.
  • Actively pursue opportunities for learning and development in the areas of internal audit, regulatory compliance, and financial services through self-study and available resources.
  • Participate in cross-training opportunities with other departments (e.g., customer service, lending) to gain broader exposure to the bank’s operations and systems.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned to support audit and risk management functions.

  • Complete annual bank-wide training as required, ensuring all necessary knowledge and skills are up to date.
  • Remain vigilant and knowledgeable about crisis procedures, including emergency protocols such as robbery.
  • Comply with all bank policies, procedures, and regulations, and report any concerns to Human Resources or upper-level management immediately.

  • Proficient in reading and writing.

Qualifications:

  • Must be 16 years of age or older. Possess High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Prefer seeking a degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, Law, or related field.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word preferred.
  • Valid motor vehicle driver’s license required.

Physical Demands:

  • Engage in routine physical activities such as walking, standing, sitting, stooping, bending, pushing, and pulling.
  • Ability to read reports and use a computer effectively.
  • Lift and carry items up to 30 pounds daily, including file boxes and office supplies.

Work Environment:

  • Primarily indoors in an environmentally controlled setting.
  • Occasional travel by car to visit other company locations may be required.
  • Flexibility for occasional evening and weekend work to achieve established goals.
