Tanium Subject Matter Expert (SME)

Preferred Location: Phoenix

Remote work is optional- This is a short-term position that has a potential for additional work.

We are seeking an experienced Tanium Subject Matter Expert (SME) with Nessus vulnerability management experience to lead the implementation, integration, and optimization of these security platforms. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of Tanium’s endpoint management capabilities, Nessus vulnerability scanning, and integrating these tools with ServiceNow and SCCM to enhance the patching and remediation process. This role requires expertise in designing automated vulnerability and patch management workflows to improve security posture and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:

Implementation & Integration:

  • Lead the optimization of Tanium and Nessus across enterprise environments.
  • Integrate/synchronize Tanium with ServiceNow and SCCM to streamline vulnerability remediation and patch management workflows.
  • Develop automation scripts to orchestrate Tanium and Nessus scanning, data correlation, and remediation tasks.
  • Configure Tanium Patch and SCCM to enhance endpoint patching and compliance.
  • Implement custom dashboards and reporting solutions for security teams and executive leadership.

Security & Vulnerability Management:

  • Recommend techniques and tactics for effective use of Tanium for vulnerability managment.
  • Correlate data from Tanium and Nessus to improve threat intelligence and vulnerability prioritization.
  • Assist with vulnerability assessments, risk analysis, and incident response activities.

Process Improvement & Optimization:

  • Enhance patch management processes by integrating Tanium, SCCM, and ServiceNow workflows.
  • Automate vulnerability remediation workflows between Tanium, Nessus, and ServiceNow ITSM.
  • Optimize Tanium Patch, Asset, and Threat Response to improve operational efficiency.
  • Develop and maintain customized playbooks and automation scripts to streamline security operations.

Training, Documentation & Collaboration:

  • Provide technical guidance and training to IT, security, and operations teams.
  • Develop standard operating procedures (SOPs) for Tanium and SCCM integration, patching, and vulnerability management.
  • Work closely with IT, SecOps, and DevOps teams to align vulnerability management with ITSM best practices.
  • Ensure compliance with security frameworks (NIST, CIS, ISO 27001, DoD RMF, FedRAMP).

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience with Tanium platform implementation, administration, and security operations.
  • Strong expertise in Nessus/Tenable Security Center for vulnerability scanning, risk analysis, and compliance reporting.
  • Experience integrating Tanium with ServiceNow ITSM, CMDB, and SCCM for patch management automation.
  • In-depth knowledge of Windows and Linux system administration, patching, and security configurations.
  • Strong scripting skills in PowerShell, Python, or Bash for automation and data correlation.
  • Deep understanding of endpoint security, vulnerability remediation, and IT operations.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Tanium Certified Administrator (TCA) or Tanium Certified Operator (TCO).
  • Tenable Certified Nessus Auditor (TCNA) or equivalent certification.
  • Experience working in large-scale enterprise or government environments.
  • Familiarity with SIEM, SOAR, and cloud security platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • Strong understanding of MITRE ATT&CK framework, NIST security standards, and CIS benchmarks
