Engineering Intern

SUMMARY

This Engineering Intern position will be responsible for supporting the operations team with the production of high-precision, machined parts used within the Aerospace industry. Under the general direction of an Engineer, the Intern will be responsible for supporting all aspects of production processes to ensure the manufacturing process is conducted in the most economic, efficient, and effective way possible.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Assisting with review of new drawings to ensure manufacturability, providing feedback to Design Engineering and Product Engineering teams on potential changes to improve manufacturing processes
  • Documenting and authoring Document Change and Engineering Change Requests to support the initiation of required drawing updates for production floor
  • Authoring Standard Operating Procedures (SOPS) that either presently do not exist or require updates, identifying outdated SOPs that need to be obsoleted or converted from PDF or MS Word format to PTC Expert Capture
  • Providing daily support to operations team in the form Gemba walks, attendance of MDI boards, and addressing "line down" incidents
  • Actively participating in Root Cause Analysis (RCA) activities to address critical defects in manufacturing processes identified though MDI metrics. Able to coordinate and direct a small team of critical team members through various fact-based problem-solving strategies
  • Assisting operations team with the development of Standard Programming, Fixturing, and Tooling Standards to assist with a "Path to Standardized Programming"
  • Collaborate  with Manufacturing Engineering team to identify ways to safely and positively impact the following initiatives eliminate waste, increase productivity, expand capabilities, and simplify manufacturing processes to improve all SQDC metrics

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE

  • Candidate should be actively pursuing a degree in Engineering or similar technical field
  • Previous ERP system experience (SAP) a plus

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  • SolidWorks Preferred 
  • VBA, Python, LabVIEW programming a plus 

 

LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

As part of their job duties, the employee must be able to sit, stand, and walk throughout the day while frequently using their hands to handle objects and communicate verbally. Additionally, they may need to reach, stretch, push, pull, crouch, stoop, and occasionally lift objects weighing up to fifty (50) pounds. This role requires specific vision abilities, including close, distance, color, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT REQUIREMENTS

  • ASTM F–2412–2005, ANSI Z41–1999, or ANSI Z41–1991 rated safety toe shoes in specific areas.
  • Clear ANSI Z87.1 safety-rated glasses in specific areas.
  • Hearing protection in specific locations.
  • Ability to compile with JSA in specific areas.
