About the Role
Are you an experienced Senior Office Engineer with a passion for construction management and ensuring project success? We are seeking a highly skilled professional to coordinate and oversee the administration of major construction projects. This role is pivotal in ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in compliance with regulations.
As a Senior Office Engineer, you will work closely with Project Managers, contractors, and field staff to track and document project activities, review engineering plans, and maintain project files. You will also play a critical role in change order negotiations, contractor coordination, and quality assurance.
Key Responsibilities
Project Coordination & Administration
- Lead the administration of construction project planning, design, budgeting, scheduling, labor compliance, and close-out activities.
- Document and track project activities in collaboration with Project Managers, contractors, and stakeholders.
- Read, interpret, and evaluate architectural and engineering plans, providing recommendations on contracting strategies.
Contract Management & Cost Control
- Review and respond to Requests for Clarifications (RFCs), Change Order Proposals (COPs), and Change Directives (CDs) for quality assurance and merit.
- Prepare cost estimates and negotiate fair pricing for change orders submitted by contractors.
- Review and monitor contractor payment applications to ensure projects are delivered within the approved budget.
Field Oversight & Compliance
- Conduct site walks to verify field conditions and develop progress or status reports.
- Analyze contractor baseline schedules, including critical path analysis and recovery plans.
- Ensure compliance with District standards, Division of the State Architect (DSA) guidelines, and building codes.
- Lead material compliance testing to confirm adherence to plans and specifications.
Project Documentation & Close-Out
- Maintain organized project files including correspondence, invoices, progress statements, and change orders.
- Coordinate progress meetings with contractors and project teams, preparing agendas and meeting minutes.
- Assist in project close-out, ensuring acquisition of as-builts, drawings, test records, and maintenance manuals.
Minimum Requirements
Experience:
- 8+ years of full-time, paid professional experience in project or construction management of commercial, public, or educational facility construction projects valued at $15M+.
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Engineering, or Construction Management from a recognized university.
- (Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis, provided a high school diploma or equivalent proficiency is met.)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience utilizing Building Information Modeling (BIM).
- Knowledge of LEED-certified projects and/or Collaborative for High-Performing Schools (CHPS).
- Familiarity with the DSA construction/design process.
