Position Summary: Engineering Technician – Extrusion & Materials

Location: Nashua, NH

We are currently seeking an Engineering Technician – Extrusion and Materials focus to join the Advanced Materials and Technology team. The position will be in Nashua, NH.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

As an Engineering Lab Technician, you are responsible for supporting continuous operation of research and development extrusion processes and materials testing.

  • Responsible for the setup, operation, monitoring and tear down of extrusion line for wire and cable and medical extrusion processes.
  • Maintains accurate documentation of repairs, maintenance schedules, extrusion run logs of the extrusion line and analytical equipment of the team
  • Supports the Advanced Materials Engineers during the implementation and validation of new materials, extrusion processes, screening of new pieces of equipment and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Supports raw material testing by performing sample preparation, measurements, and analysis as necessary (thermal analysis, rheology and mechanical testing)
  • Plans, executes, and reports results of product level test and measurement methods
  • Ensure safety protocols are followed during testing and laboratory activity.
  • Responsible for keeping the work area, machines, and tooling inventory clean and organized.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associates degree with 5+ years of relevant experience on wire & cable and/or catheter/medical device extrusion
  • Strong knowledge of extrusion raw materials, including polyolefins and fluoropolymers
  • Proficiency with extrusion auxiliary equipment such as pay-off, take-up, measuring devices, vacuum sizer/calibrators, pullers, melt pumps
  • Experience with disassembling and cleaning extrusion equipment and extrusion die
  • Knowledge of polymer characterization including mechanical, thermal and rheology is preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to manage time effectively
  • Ability and desire to be “hands on”
  • Competency in the use of Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
