Dessert Holdings is seeking a QC Microbiology Supervisor to join our team based in Kennesaw, GA with oversight of four locations in the U.S. & Canada. This role is responsible for overseeing microbiological analysis and ensuring compliance with the Environmental Monitoring Program (EMP) across multiple sites. The ideal candidate will provide technical support to sanitation, QA, maintenance, and engineering teams to uphold food safety standards.
The hired candidate can expect to make between $65,000 to $75,000 annually. Pay within this range will vary based upon relevant experience, skills, and education.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supervise the environmental monitoring program, including ATP testing, air sampling, water testing, and pathogen/indicator swabbing.
- Monitor and trend microbiological data, ensuring accurate documentation and timely communication with stakeholders.
- Report non-conformance results with urgency and support corrective actions.
- Conduct root-cause investigations to identify harborage sites and improve EMP processes.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives within the QA department.
- Assist sister facilities in establishing EMP programs and maintaining data consistency.
- Train employees in GMPs, aseptic techniques, swabbing, testing methodologies, and equipment maintenance.
- Collaborate with facilities, maintenance, and sanitation teams to resolve EMP-related issues.
- Conduct internal audits on sanitation practices and compliance with food safety standards.
- Support sanitation chemical suppliers in employee training and cleaning process improvements.
- Develop and update SOPs, policies, and procedures for microbiological programs.
- Coordinate 3rd-party lab testing for validation studies and product shelf-life evaluations.
- Maintain lab records, including Certificates of Analysis, quality letters, and testing registries.
- Ensure compliance with food safety standards, regulatory requirements, and GMPs across facilities.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Microbiology, or a related field.
- 3+ years of experience in food safety, laboratory, or manufacturing environments, with a focus on microbiology.
- Supervisory experience with the ability to train and guide employees effectively.
- Proficiency in EMP programs, microbiology, sanitation practices, and food production processes.
- Working knowledge of USDA/FDA regulations, GMPs, GFSI audits, SSOPs, and SOPs.
- PCQI Certification (or willingness to obtain within four months of hire).
- Strong skills in report writing and communicating findings to leadership.
- Ability to travel up to 10%–25% within the U.S.
- Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish (preferred but not required).
- Experience in hygiene design and food manufacturing environments.
