For over 25 years, National Experienced Workforce Solutions (NEW Solutions) has specialized in connecting experienced workers (ages 55+) with full-time and part-time job opportunities that support the critical missions of Federal Agencies across the United States. NEW Solutions connects experienced workers (ages 55+) with the USDA Agricultural Research Service (ARS). These experienced professionals provide administrative, scientific, and technical support to the Agricultural Research Service through the Experienced Worker Program (EWP). *This position will be open until filled.

Qualifications:

Minimum of 20 year(s) of experience in The use of wind erosion equipment, weather and related equipment to measure crop photosynthesis using growth chambers. This includes working with dataloggers and connecting sensors to measure, e.g., soil saltation and crop reference evapotranspiration; calibration and use of sensors to measure weather variables. OR AA Degree in Engineering skills and experience with dataloggers and measurement of weather variables.

  • Skills and professional experience on the use of Campbell Scientific equipment, including dataloggers, and general soil and plant laboratory and field equipment.
  • Experience required with Windows, MS Word, MS Excel, Power Point

Duties:

The enrollee shall not sign federal documents, authorize the use of federal funds, nor initiate or conduct federally funded research projects. The enrollee shall not author articles for publication as a federal employee, nor coordinate scientific research between the Government and private industry. The enrollee shall not present themselves as a Government employee or Government representative at meetings both foreign and domestic or when coordinating federal agencies? areas of research. The enrollee shall not make decisions on federally based research on behalf of Government policy makers, and the enrollee shall not supervise any Government employees.

  • Advise others on the suitability of equipment that should be either repaired, stored, or recycled. This includes wind erosion, meteorological sensors, soil and plant and related equipment. This includes laboratory and field equipment.    50%
  • Advise others on the suitability of historical documents that should be either scanned and saved, and/or recycled.    15%
  • Advise others on what to do with stored soil samples, and wind erosion equipment that may have historical significance.    15%
  • Advise others on repairing weather stations, storing infrared gas analyzers and related equipment for future use.    10%
  • Train technician on the use of dataloggers to collect weather data and troubleshoot connecting meteorological sensors to measure air temperature and humidity, wind speed and short-wave radiation.    10%
