Planning Manager - ATS Specialized

 

Summary

To ensure high quality and profitable operation of the Specialized division through strategic, efficient, and effective coordination of equipment and load operations in accordance with company and department quality, utilization, growth plan and profit objectives.  Top priority with managing and developing the health of ATS Specialized network.

 

Education and Experience

  1. Firm understanding of the commercial transportation industry with a strong working knowledge of operations, logistics and transportation principles within oversized and overweight freight market.
  2. Must possess excellent management skills, and organizational skills
  3. Ability to quickly develop connections and relationships with a wide variety of personalities, and build trust through accountability.
  4. Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook) required.
  5. Must be self-motivated, able to multi-task and work independently.
  6. Must be a team player, amenable to a variety of work projects.
  7. Must be able to both think creatively and provide creative contributions to projects.
  8. Must be able to demonstrate a proactive commitment to ATS corporate values and the success of all staff.
  9. Must be organized and an analytical thinker with the ability to work with multiple priorities.
  10. Must possess the ability to think strategically to achieve organizational goals and grow the business.
  11. College degree desirable, will consider a combination equivalency of a minimum of two years post high school education and at least three years related industry operation’s experience.
  12. Experience working in a fast-paced environment with direct accountability for results.
  13. Experience working with high stress work volumes.
  14. Excellent communication skills (written, listening and verbal).
  15. Willing and able to travel infrequently, including overnight travel.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Proactively influence long-term business strategies including market development, operational practices, asset utilization, and capacity management to support both growth and profitability while maintaining the necessary flexibility to support and improve the business model.
    • Think strategically to manage and improve the overall health of the operational model, formulating process design and operational improvement strategies that maximize productivity, efficiencies, ROI, and customer satisfaction.
    • Manage the current and long-term coordination of the movement of inbound trucks/trailers and outbound freight to match capacity and customer needs while optimizing asset and resource utilization and accounting for all aspects within a one-way random business model (e.g. customer needs, multiple origin/destination lanes, driver and trailer availability).
    • Establish and manage metrics, analyzing trends to forecast and influence market, asset, and operational decisions.
    • Participate on inter-departmental teams, providing planning knowledge and experience to optimize the profitability of the business model.
    • Facilitate on-going relationship development with operations, planning, account managers, sales and customer service groups.

 

  1. Measure performance of planning team to evaluate areas of improvement and recognize success.
    • Assist with training, development and evaluation of specialized planners.
    • Manage projects of all sizes, coordinating and reviewing the work of less experienced planners.
    • Improve profitability through increased efficiencies, production and productivity.

 

  1. Manage the day-to-day assignment of loads, matching the needs, qualifications, and availability of drivers and equipment.
    • Effectively coordinate market needs of available freight, customer needs, and loads in a constantly changing and often unpredictable environment.
    • Track equipment to ensure the maximum utilization.
    • Work with Account Representatives to achieve client satisfaction and expected results.

  3. Works within budget that is set for the department.
