Veterinary Assistant — Emergency & Critical Care

We are looking for Veterinary Assistants to join our growing emergency and critical care team on multiple available shifts. The ideal candidate is compassionate, humble, and honest. You will utilize your skills and learn new and advanced techniques while working with a team that functions with a great deal of autonomy and responsibility. We pride ourselves on providing an environment where team members feel safe to learn and seek guidance from one another.
Education/Experience Requirements:
- 1 year of veterinary experience strongly required
- Medication Clerk License preferred, will help you obtain if not currently licensed
- High school diploma or GED required
- A criminal background check will be required for all positions that handle controlled substances within our hospital
Essential Job Functions:
- Client education and communication
- Triage of patients presenting to the emergency department
- Performing physical exams and obtaining vital signs
- Accurately relay patient’s changing status to ER veterinarian
- Performing lab work and diagnostic imaging
- Placing IV catheters and performing phlebotomy
- Administering medications and monitoring therapeutic response
- Provide nursing care to patients according to hospital standards
- Accurate medical record keeping
- Filling prescriptions
Skills Required:
- Strong client service skills
- Safe handling and restraining of dogs and cats
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Appropriate radiographic technique
- Ability to stay organized and multitask
- Maintain medication clerk lisencure
- Ability to work in a changing environment
