Title: Tobacco Community Engagement Coordinator
Department: Pala Housing Resource Center
Status: Full-time / Monday – Friday (weekends on occasion)
Salary: Hourly / DOE
Supervisor: Housing Executive Director
POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Pala Housing Executive Director, the Tobacco Community Engagement Coordinator (CEC) will assist the Project Director and Cultural Consultant in coordination/collaboration activities with other departments and partners to develop pieces of training and community education activities and materials designed to inform the community about the dangers of smoking, vaping, second-hand smoke and the use of other tobacco products. Work with the Cupa Cultural Center to implement traditional native tobacco usage.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Completes all deliverables as outlined in the Tobacco grant Scope of Work
- Works with various departments and partners in providing training, materials, and educational activities aimed at reducing and eliminating the use of commercial tobacco in non-traditional ways
- Plan and coordinate events, ranging from meetings, hosting events, and hosting booths at events, both virtual and in-person.
- Handle all event logistics, including booking venues, arranging catering, securing technology, and coordinating with other departments co-hosting events.
- Assist the Executive Director with tracking expenses, ensuring all costs are within the Tobacco Grant budget.
- Develop and implement community outreach plans, including social media campaigns, email invitations, and promotional materials.
- Collect post-event and outreach evaluations for the Tobacco Grant Evaluator.
- Attend two out-of-state conferences each year.
- Attends local events related to the Tobacco Grant.
- Tabling at community events.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

- Ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
- Ability to maintain accurate and complete written logs of all activities.
- Ability to work independently.
- Ability to professionally represent oneself and the Pala Band of Mission Indians
- Ability to work in a team-based approach to support coworkers and other Pala departments in completing projects.
- Proficient at using computer systems, software applications and other office equipment.
- Cultural competency.
- Comfortable speaking to groups and meeting new people.
- Access to reliable transportation.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
- Prefer a Bachelor's degree in Public Health, Social Work, Psychology, or a similar field.
- Experience working with Native American communities or a multicultural setting is preferred.
- Experience working with youth ranging from elementary through high school age is preferred.
- CPR/First Aid certification preferred; if not, certification must be completed within 60 days of being hired
- Must be willing to work in the field and travel within and outside of city limits.
- Must be able to pass a background check and work with children.
- Must possess a valid California Class C driver's license (in good standing).
- Must acknowledge and agree to maintain a Drug-Free workplace (including marijuana) as a condition of employment with the Pala Band of Mission Indians. Must pass pre-employment and random drug testing during employment.
- All employees are expected to follow the Tribal Personnel Policies and Procedures of the Pala Band of Mission Indians and must adhere to any additional applicable addendums.
