The Agricultural Conservation Experienced Services (ACES) Program offers unique opportunities in Scientific, Technical, and Agricultural support for individuals aged 55 and over to support the Department of Agriculture?s Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) through a grant administered program awarded to National Experienced Workforce Solutions (NEW Solutions). This is a unique program where your talents, expertise, and experience will truly be valued. The ACES program provides an opportunity to work side-by-side with NRCS staff that are doing important work every day. Benefits: Paid Health Insurance Premium for positions budgeted at 60+ hours per pay period, Accrued Vacation and Sick Leave, Paid Federal Holidays, and optional Vision and Dental Insurance available for positions budgeted at 35+ hours per pay period. Qualifications:

Minimum of 15 year(s) of experience in soil science, resource management, forestry, agronomy, or biology. Knowledge of farming practices as well as a working knowledge/experience of basic principles of soil/water/plant relationships. Must possess a basic understanding of agriculture in Tennessee. OR BA/BS Degree in business management, natural resources, or related field of study. Meet requirements for any 0400 series.

  • Skill in operating personal computer software, as well as simple programming (including word processing, spreadsheets, email, file transfers, internet, time keeping, and databases). Knowledge and experience with National Food Security Act of 1985 as amended. Valid State Driver?s license.

Duties:

The successful candidate will support the soils staff soil map unit and data inconsistencies. Serves as the lead for HEL and Wetland compliance spot checks and training of NRCS staff completing various tasks related to the NFSA of 1985.

  • Coordinate with Soil Survey Office Staff, TN Area Resource Soil Scientist, and TN State Soil Scientist to review soil map unit and soil component data reports for inconsistencies.   50%
  • Conducts training and provides training resources for HEL and Wetland Compliance FSA spot checks to Area 1 staff.   25%
  • Coordinates successful completion of all tasks realted to HEL and Wetland Compliance FSA spot checks for Area 1. Communicates with state NRCS POC and completes data entry.   15%
  • Performs other duties as assigned.   10%

  • Annual information system security, anti-harassment, and civil rights training.
  • Travel Requirements: A government vehicle will be provided for transportation as needed. There should be very limited need for travel.
  • Remote work arrangements are available for this position.
