Head Teller

GENERAL SUMMARY

Serves as Head Teller responsible for supervising and directing the activities of the Teller staff. Performs the full range of Teller functions and other related member service functions.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Supervise and direct Teller operations by assigning work, answering questions, solving problems and helping with complex transactions.
  • Perform the full range of Teller duties, including, but not limited to deposits, withdrawals, loan payments, mail transactions, account maintenance, and nightly balance.
  • Implement Credit Union policies and procedures in the Teller area.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of Teller activities on an ongoing basis and recommend steps to improve service and delivery to members.
  • Evaluate job performance of Tellers to ensure quality of work and service to members.
  • Schedule staff to ensure adequate coverage during operating hours. Approve absences in accordance with established policies.
  • Recommend disciplinary action in accordance with established policies.
  • Train and cross-train Teller staff.
  • Conduct routine audits on Teller drawers.
  • Monitor workflow and individual workloads in Teller area, making adjustments when necessary.
  • Maintain log of Teller operations, overages, and shortages.
  • Oversee vault cash and maintain accurate logs of transactions.
  • Run coin machine and handle end-of-day procedures for machine (if applicable to branch.)
  • Use OTG proficiently and do necessary research.
  • Oversee end-of-day balance for Teller staff.
  • Hold staff meetings with Tellers to discuss new developments, areas needing improvement, and to present general information.
  • Respond to members' requests, problems and complaints and/or direct them to the proper person for specific information and assistance.
  • Balance ATM machine. Process deposit envelopes, count and stock canister and adjust discrepancies.
  • Maintain petty cash drawer.
  • Keep up on all services and procedures of the Credit Union.
  • Audit TCD's or TCR's and keep them full (if applicable to branch.)
  • Do necessary research and inquiries for members and employees.
  • Check 21.
  • Process coin shipments (if applicable to branch.)
  • Cross-sell products and services offered by the Credit Union.
  • Maintain current knowledge of all Credit Union policies and procedures, including compliance with federal laws and regulations as set forth by the NCUA and other regulatory agencies.

ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS

  • Attend seminars, conferences and training courses relating to areas of responsibility.
  • Ensure Teller area is kept neat and clean.
  • Maintain adequate inventory of Teller supplies, placing orders when necessary.
  • CTR reports, SAR reports, and monetary logs.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

  • Requires professional, well-developed interpersonal skills for communicating with members, employees, and the general public on Credit Union-related matters.
  • Requires thorough knowledge of the Credit Union's policies, procedures, programs, products and services as they relate to Teller operations.
  • Requires completion of high school education.
  • Requires at least three years of experience in a financial institution operations or services position. Supervisory experience is preferred. 
  •  Requires intermediate mathematical skills (calculations and concepts involving percentages, fractions, decimals, etc.).
  • Intermediate working knowledge of PC applications (Office Suite).
