Accounting Intern (Spring 2025)

Goal of Internship:  Develop the knowledge and experience necessary for an intern to obtain a paid Entry-Level Accounting position following graduation. 

Position Overview:  The intern will apply their knowledge to hands-on learning opportunities and be taught other industry related functions under the supervision from the Senior Accountant. The intern will be introduced to other key business units throughout the organization to help them gain a better understanding of the numbers being accounted for and to maintain a line of communication between departments. Lastly the intern will yield results from a variety of reports and digest the information into related journal entries, logs or sub-ledgers.

Essential Functions: Specific duties and functions included but are not limited to:

  • Assist in the daily/weekly/monthly financial reports relating to cash, tickets, parking and food & beverage from events held at the American Airlines Center;
  • Input end-of-month journal entries into the general ledger;
  • Monitor Accounts Payable inbox, route invoices for processing, and review coding on invoices;
  • Apply educational understanding to real world applications for items such as:
    • Accounts Receivable
    • Accrual Accounting
    • Account Reconciliations (Balance Sheet Accounts)
  • Maintain financial records for a number of expense tracking spreadsheets;
  • Understand depreciation and fixed assets and the schedules related to them;
  • Ability to propose new strategies or process improvements that will assist the department related to its efficiency;
  • Capacity to handle a wide variety of clerical functions from making copies, filing and preparing documents for reports;
  • Assist with adhoc projects and audits as needed;

Education and/or Experience:  Intern must be a student in their junior or senior year at an accredited college or university.  Prefer cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher with 1+ years of prior work experience preferred (part-time employment and previous internships of any type may be included).                  

Qualifications:

To perform this internship successfully, an individual must be able to demonstrate Arena Operating Company’s Core Values of Integrity, Teamwork, Passion and Excellence.  The Intern should also have the following qualifications:                    

  • Must be pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting. Other concentrations related to Business Administration acceptable, but prior knowledge of accounting functions is highly preferred
  • Internship may qualify for academic credit through student’s college or university
  • Student must be eligible to work in the United States (no Visa sponsorships)
  • Should be able to work a minimum of 20 hours a week
  • Must be able to provide 2 character references  (not from family or friends)
  • Must be able to pass background check and drug screen upon selection

Other Skills and Abilities:

  • Proficient computer skills (MS Excel (intermediate level preferred), Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Internet, etc.)
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail,
  • Strong interest and passion for Accounting – willingness to learn,
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills,
  • Excellent problem-solving skills,
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding all aspects of the position,
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and in supervised meetings to employees and other members of the organization.

Physical Demands:

Ability to regularly stand, sit, walk, talk, hear, use hands to handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, kneel, crouch, bend, and climb stairs; ability to lift and/or handle up to 20 pounds unassisted.

Work Environment:

The noise level in offices is usually low to moderate; however, the noise level may be loud during events.
