Information Systems Manager

Salary Dependent Upon Experience

Job Summary:

Under general supervision, provides technical assistance and support to end users of PCs and virtual networks in all municipal departments.  Installs and maintains network system hardware; software and data; monitors activity; configures and manages network data back up and archives; and maintains remote communications. 

Major Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for administering approved annual departmental budget in accordance with the City’s financial goals for each fiscal year.
  • Researches and purchases City’s PCs and networking equipment.
  • Performs hardware installation and maintenance on all municipal computers.
  • Assists users in problem analysis for operator error, software failure, or hardware error.
  • Monitors, verifies, and reports employee noncompliance as it relates to policies and procedures.
  • Verifies City compliance with software licensing rules.
  • Troubleshoots and manages the City’s telecommunications system.
  • Maintains backup of all network systems.
  • Maintains virus-checking software on all network file servers.
  • Maintains an inventory of all software, hardware, and magnetic media.
  • Monitors network systems to detect error messages that signal malfunction in software or hardware.
  • Manages City’s Automated Meter Reading network equipment and software.
  • Installs new software upgrades.
  • Assesses available hardware/software in anticipation of need by City departments.
  • Verifies appropriate hardware/software levels on City PC’s and network servers.
  • Assists users in detailed implementation of purchased software packages.
  • Plans and develops City's website through communications with the internet presence provider.
  • Other duties as assigned, including assisting other departments as required.

?Minimum Qualifications & Required Knowledge:

  • Must possess one of the following:
    • Bachelor Degree from four-year college or university
    • High school graduate or GED in additions to an equivalent combination of education and experience substituting two (2) years of experience for one (1) year of education.
  • Two (2) or more years of experience and/or training in configuring, installing and supporting personal computers, network operating systems and associated automation applications
  • Two (2) or more years of management experience
  • Knowledge of the development and administration of municipal budgets
  • Knowledge of computer operating systems and programs
  • Skill in oral and written communication
  • Skill in managing multiple projects and assignments simultaneously 
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service
  • Ability to provide instruction on basic operations of resources
  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair all types of hardware and software
