Position: Laboratory and Pharmacy Technician
Bridgetown Veterinary Emergency and Referral (BVER) is a specialty animal hospital located in Portland Oregon. We are looking for qualified laboratory and pharmacy attendants to join our hospital. We offer specialty and emergency services and have veterinarians in Surgery, Internal Medicine, Neurology, Radiology, Urgent care and Emergency and Critical Care.

Tasks include but not limited to:
• Responsible for all daily, weekly and monthly maintenance of all in house laboratory equipment
• Perform all in house lab requests for all departments in a timely manner
• Pack and ship all laboratory requests to outside labs
• Maintain logs of all outgoing lab requests and follow up on results when necessary
• Maintain a schedule of quality control checks on all in house machines
• Ability to identify critical lab results and quickly bring to doctors' attention
• Maintain a clean laboratory. Use only products approved by manufacturers and/or management
• Input all lab charges when needed
• Prepare prescriptions and communicate instructions to clients
• Decipher lab/pharmacy requests and perform medical math
• Inventory/ordering of all pharmacy and lab supplies
• Ability to troubleshoot equipment failure, unusual lab results or equipment error messages
• Call clients as it relates to prescription medications
• Organize and maintain procedure area and department-specific equipment, in addition to assisting other departments in daily upkeep.
• Flexibility with work hours and able to work additional hours when necessary
• Patient, enthusiastic, reliable, have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Able to perform moderately physically demanding work, that requires a lot of lifting (up to 50 pounds), cleaning, and constant motion
• Applicant must be able to multitask efficiently

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR (Essential Qualifications):
Knowledge, Skills, and Ability:
· Knowledge of veterinary hospital practices and procedures
· Knowledge of medical terminology, equipment, and anesthesia procedures, as well as generic and brand names, common uses, and side effects of drugs utilized in a veterinary practice
· Intermediate proficiency with a variety of computer programs including Microsoft Office Suite, and Practice Management software (PIMS)
· Intermediate written, verbal, and active listening communication skills with a customer-oriented approach
· Strong analytical, critical thinking, judgement, and problem-solving skills
· Strong attention to detail and high level of accuracy
While performing the duties of this job, the team member is regularly required to talk and hear. Specific vision abilities are required to do this job including close vision. This position requires walking and/or standing for long periods of time, bending, reaching, grasping, and repetitive motions. Must be able to lift up to 30 lbs. unassisted, 75 lbs. with assistance. The working environment may be stressful with aggressive, frightened, abused or injured pets that may bite or scratch. Must be able to work flexible hours including some holidays, evenings and weekends.
