Full-Time Production / Relief VRT & Machine Operator

Dessert Holdings is looking for a Full Time Production / Relief VRT & Machine Operator to join our team based in London, ON. This individual will be responsible for operating, scheduling, and overseeing the rack and product flow in the VRT, encompassing both decorating and packaging processes. Additionally, they will be responsible for setting up and operating the ultrasonic cutting system to ensure optimal efficiency of the VRT. This position will also involve working as a Machine Operator and in Production, with priority given to VRT/Machine Operation in scheduling, along with providing coverage for both scheduled and unscheduled absences.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

As a VRT (Variable Retention Time) Freezer Operator:

  • Schedule rack destinations for decorating and rack requests for packaging and manage the flow of racks through the VRT by planning the selected product destinations.
  • Monitor the daily performance of the VRT, act as a spotter for maintenance personnel entering the VRT and provide feedback on improvements and preventative actions for the system.
  • Approve and manage all temperature adjustments for retention lanes, coordinate with other departments working in the VRT, and conduct root cause analysis for all operating issues.
  • Provide setup, operating, training, and coaching support for all packaging equipment to ensure maximum VRT performance, address faults occurring in the VRT (including logging and ensuring root cause analysis and corrective action), and perform training on the system as required.

As a Machine Operator:

  • Set up and troubleshoot equipment adjustments to maintain products within standard and ensure all lines are running at or above required performance levels.
  • Maintain hygiene standards of equipment and facility, consistent with GMP standards and Master Sanitation Schedules, and remove waste from production areas as needed.
  • Safely use, store, and maintain all company-supplied cleaning equipment, hand tools, and materials, and support setup, contract cleaning, and maintenance services as necessary.
  • Maintain all BRC audit paperwork and other required documentation, coordinate with appropriate staff throughout the shift to ensure continuous process and quality standards, and assist line staff with troubleshooting, problem-solving, and conflict resolution.
  • Adhere to safety, quality, and performance standards, support training and continuous learning activities within the department, and practice the 5 steps of cleaning consistently.
  • Start and operate all equipment within the assigned department and ensure smooth product changeovers with minimal downtime and accurate time accounting.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must have at least 1-2 years of experience as a machine operator in a food manufacturing environment.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Must be legally eligible to work full-time in Canada.
  • Working knowledge of VRT control screens, VRT design, and the Abrigo Ultrasonic cutter.
  • Comfortable working with exposure to cold temperatures and basic chemical knowledge.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and exercise effective judgement.
  • Mechanical aptitude required.
  • Excellent attendance record and demonstrated reliability, strong communication and interpersonal skills, and ability to collaborate effectively.
  • Ability to perform heavy lifting, climb stairs, navigate equipment, and work with a sense of urgency.
  • Setup and changeover experience are considered an asset.

Shift Summary:

  • Required to be available for a minimum of five shifts per week from Monday to Saturday, with Saturdays being a regularly required shift.
  • All the shifts are rotational and run for 8 hours with a 30-minute break added.

Schedule:

  • Schedules are posted 2 weeks in advance.
  • Must be able to accommodate all the starting times on the specified shift
  • Start times could be different every day,
    • A-Shift start times are between 1:00 am - 6:00 am
    • C-Shift start times are between 5:00 pm - 10:00 pm

What We Offer:

Pay Rate: While performing Production role, probationary rate per hour is $19.96 and full rate is $22.18

                  While performing Machine Operator role, probationary rate per hour is $24.11 and full rate is $26.78

                  While performing VRT Operator role, probationary rate per hour is $25.65 and full rate is $28.50
