Quality Assurance Technician

Dessert Holdings is looking for a Quality Assurance Technician to join our team based in London, ON. As a member of the QA team, the Quality Assurance Technician will participate in the development and administration of the Original Cakerie Food Safety and Quality System.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: (this is meant to be an outline, not an exhaustive list of responsibilities)

  • Process/product monitoring, evaluation and problem solving
  • Develop and maintain product/process specifications, SOP's
  • Customer/consumer complaint evaluation
  • Participate with new products team in specification development and new product implementation
  • Conduct various audits to monitor conformance to regulatory and corporate requirements

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

Must Have

  • Proven experience in the food industry, including knowledge of HACCP, GFSI, and SPC.
  • Bachelor's degree in Microbiology, Chemistry, Food Science, or a College Diploma in a relevant area.
  • Willingness to work various shifts in a 24/7 operational environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Windows operating systems.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to travel to facilities in the US and other locations in Canada.
  • Experience with microbiological plating and testing.

Nice to Have

  • Familiarity with Preventative Controls for Human Foods (FSMA/SFCR), BRC standards, and Six Sigma certification.
  • Knowledge of sanitation principles, processes, and evaluations.
  • Experience in microbiological enumeration and analysis.
  • Understanding of ERP systems, particularly Microsoft Navision.
  • Strong investigative and research skills.
  • Experience handling various laboratory equipment, including moisture balance, water activity meters, and microbiological testing tools.
  • Familiarity with 3M Petri films and other rapid microbiological testing methods; knowledge of MiniTab software or similar is a plus.

Schedule:

  • Flexible Monday - Sunday
  • Night Shift (various start times between 10:30 pm - 12:00 am)
