? This position supports the Catoctin Mountain Park office of the National Park Service. ? The NPS Experienced Services Program is a unique partnership created to help solve the workforce issues facing government agencies. The program connects experienced workers (age 55+) to the NPS to provide scientific, technical, and administrative support. ? NPS ESP positions are meant to provide temporary, project-based support. This position is currently funded for an estimate of 26 weeks. ? A background security investigation may be required prior to the start date. Only those positions with 30+ hours per week are eligible for health insurance benefits; all positions will accrue sick leave. ? The experienced workers participating in the Program are referred to as ?Enrollees? and are not employees of the NPS or NEW Solutions. NEW Solutions is the ESP non-governmental organization responsible for administrative aspects of the program, and the Enrollees work under NPS direction to assist the Agency staff in carrying out their mission. NPS ESP Enrollees benefit from the opportunity to keep technical skills current; to access new training opportunities; to engage in gainful project-based positions; and to undertake meaningful tasks using their experience and talent to contribute to the environment, the national economy, and their own financial security.

Qualifications:

Minimum of 15 year(s) of experience in Automotive maintenance and repair OR 11th or Below in No degree required

  • Experience required with Windows, MS Word, MS Excel
  • FMSS
Duties:

Enrollee will support Catoctin Mountain Park by performing repair, maintenance, and overhaul work on automobiles, trucks, tractors, and other vehicles, like diesel and gasoline engines and other mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, computer-assisted, and electronically-controlled systems.

  • Perform repairs on all parts of park automobiles and equipment    60%
  • Perform safety checks to ensure park vehicles are in good working order    15%
  • Prepare reports on fleet vehicles, prepare parts and supplies requisitions, and other types of written materials    5%
  • Install vehicle add-ons and accessories when necessary    5%
  • Mentor new federal automotive worker hire when that person comes onboard    15%

  • Air travel anticipated: No travel is immediately expected, although it could be required in the future.
  • Rental cars: No travel is immediately expected, although it could be required in the future.
  • Health and Safety Considerations: Following prescribed safety practices provided by the park
  • Required Safety Gear: Steel toe boots, safety glasses, gloves, ear protection
  • Physical requirements: Standing for long periods of time, bending, stooping, crawling under vehicles, and making repairs in tight spaces. Ability to lift up to 40 pounds and move items up to 50 pounds with assistance. Work is usually performed inside on concrete surfaces where there is exposure to drafts, noise, and fumes from vehicles. Occasionally the work may be performed outside in adverse weather conditions. Exposure to dirt, dust, grease, and the potential for burns, chemical irritations, shocks, bruises, cuts, and strains.
