TPREP Program Assistant

Job Summary:

Provides assistance to Tribal Personal Responsibility Program (TPREP) grant project for teen pregnancy prevention including working with department staff and one or more local school districts helping to prepare informational materials and collect statistics, and help with outreach and prevention education activities. 

Essential Functions:

  • Provides information to tribal youth regarding healthy life choices, traditions and culture and personal health and prevention. 
  • Participates in planning, outreach and prevention educational events.
  • Develops social media and public relations materials to encourage tribal member participation.
  • Works with health education school teachers during the school year. 
  • Provides weekly and monthly reports to supervisor.
  • Assists in maintaining program inventory and acquires materials as necessary.
  • Provides transportation for youth as needed for events or other youth needs.
  • Works with the Youth Prevention team to plan and facilitate youth and community events in a lead or assistant role. 
  • Provides a safe environment for participants.
  • Assists in preparation and clean-up of snack and supplies from activities.
  • Maintains personal project files.
  • Models appropriate behavior and healthy lifestyle in the community, on social media, and while on duty is expected.  
  • Attends grant related meetings, assists with grant reporting needs, and helps maintain grant compliance as needed.  
  • Assists in having conversations with youth and adults about adolescent sexual health development.
  • Performs a variety of other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Education, Experience, and Licenses:

  • Requires high school diploma or GED. Associate's Degree or equivalent years of coursework in health, youth services, education, social services or closely related field preferred.
  • Minimum of one (1) year related experience working with health education programs, social services, and/or youth programs preferred.
  • OR equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Driving Requirements:

  • Must maintain a valid Oregon driver's license or obtain one upon hire, qualify for the Tribe's vehicle insurance, and provide proof of personal vehicle insurance.

Qualifications, Registrations, and Certifications:

  • Must be able to work evenings, weekends and overnights frequently to chaperone youth for program events/activities.
  • Requires the ability to take initiative on projects and be a leader and team player.
  • Requires the ability to effectively implement projects within shifting priorities.
  • Requires a First Aid and CPR certificate or the ability to obtain one.
  • Ability to drive a 12-passenger van for transporting others.
  • Must pass an extensive criminal background check.
  • Native American employees preferred.
  • Requires ongoing training related to adolescent sexual health development.
  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Requires the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Requires excellent organization skills with calendars and information.
  • Requires excellent computer software skills (in Microsoft products.)
  • Must be positive, patient and professional in demeanor.
  • Requires the ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Knowledge of and sensitivity to Native American culture required.

Environmental Factors and Conditions/Physical Requirements:

  • Continually requires the ability to express or receive detailed information or important instructions through oral communication.
  • Continually requires working with fingers rather than the whole hand or arm. Requires repetitive movement of wrists, hands and/or fingers.  Often requires walking or moving about to accomplish tasks.
  • Requires standing and/or sitting for sustained periods of time, raising objects from a lower to a higher position and/or moving objects horizontally.
  • Occasionally requires lifting of up to 50 pounds.
  • This position is frequently subject to inside environmental conditions which provide protection from weather conditions, but not necessarily from temperature changes, and is occasionally subject to outside environmental conditions.
  • Supports a safe work environment by performing all duties in accordance with Tribal safety policies and procedures, and Emergency Management Plan. 
  • Due to the nature of the interactions with other employees and the public we serve, employees may be required to provide documentation of, or receive, certain health vaccinations.
  • May be called upon to serve as a Disaster Reservist during emergencies.
  • Local travel is frequently required. Travel outside of the state is occasionally required.
