 ASSISTANT TEACHER/ FLOATER

 

 

JOB SUMMARY:

Assist all teachers in providing an educationally enriching and stimulating environment where experience is designed to develop self-esteem and positive self-image, social interaction, self-expression and communication skills, creative expressions, and intellectual growth.

Non- Exempt Position.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Assist teacher in preparing materials for lessons.

Assist teacher during lesson plan implementation.

Provide a supportive environment where children can learn and practice appropriate and acceptable individual and group behaviors.

Maintain regulations of the classroom in accordance with state guidelines.

Perform basic housekeeping duties, which may include vacuuming, cleaning tables, disinfecting toys, and following proper handwashing, diaper changing, and toileting guidelines.

Perform miscellaneous job-related duties.

Follow and complete closing checklist duties.

Communicate effectively with parents and guardians.

Able to adapt to classroom routines. 

Maintains current CPR/1st Aid training and any required staff development training.

Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:  High school diploma or GED and a minimum of ninety (90) hours of college credit or two (2) years of technical college credits.  Must have at least one (1) year of experience working directly with individuals with disabilities.  Must have a valid Class 1 Georgia driver’s license.

 

OTHER KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

He/she must be a mature person who is friendly, caring, and who can communicate well.  He/she must have a working knowledge of the agency’s Mission and Vision as well as the programs and services.  He/she must have a knowledge and understanding of the agency’s accreditation process and its value to the organization.

 

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

The Arc of Southwest Georgia Kid’s Corner Child Development Center provides an academically oriented environment conducive to learning and nurturing.  Also provides an activities environment and an instructional setting in addition to a place to conduct business and personal interviews with the consumers’ families and professionals. Some travel is expected as a part of this position.

 

JOB RELATIONSHIPS:

He/She will be supervised by the Director of the Child Development Center.

He/she will have no supervisory responsibilities over other employees.
