? This position supports Kalaupapa National Historical Park of the National Park Service and may be performed remotely. ? The NPS Experienced Services Program is a unique partnership created to help solve the workforce issues facing government agencies. The program connects experienced workers (age 55+) to the NPS to provide scientific, technical, and administrative support. ? NPS ESP positions are meant to provide temporary, project-based support. This position is currently funded for an estimate of 48 weeks. ? A background security investigation may be required prior to the start date. Only those positions with 30+ hours per week are eligible for health insurance benefits; all positions will accrue sick leave. ? The experienced workers participating in the Program are referred to as ?Enrollees? and are not employees of the NPS or NEW Solutions. NEW Solutions is the ESP non-governmental organization responsible for administrative aspects of the program, and the Enrollees work under NPS direction to assist the Agency staff in carrying out their mission. NPS ESP Enrollees benefit from the opportunity to keep technical skills current; to access new training opportunities; to engage in gainful project-based positions; and to undertake meaningful tasks using their experience and talent to contribute to the environment, the national economy, and their own financial security.

Qualifications:

Minimum of 20 year(s) of experience in Cultural resources, park management, leadership positions OR BA/BS Degree in history, archaeology, architecture, or related

  • resource management agency; demonstrated ability to bring together diverse stakeholders
  • Experience required with Windows, MS Word, MS Excel, Power Point
  • Adobe Acrobat; MS Teams; MS Outlook; SharePoint
Duties:

Develop a cemetery management plan for Kahaloko Cemetery at Kalaupapa National Historical Park to include grave marker, feral ungulate and vegetation management strategies including Java plum removal. Develop project funding proposal for gravesite marker repair and maintenance.

  • Research and draft cemetery management plan utilizing existing planning documents, agency standards and best practices and traditional cultural knowledge.    90%

  • Park documentation, systems, and processes
  • Travel Requirements: Travel to the park may be required depending on enrollee location. One longer or several shorter trips may be necessary.
  • Overnight travel: Potentially 1-3 trips
  • Air travel anticipated: Depending on enrollee location, air travel may be required
  • Required Safety Gear: If any fieldwork is required for inspections of cultural resources, appropriate field safety equipment will be provided.
  • Physical requirements: Job is primarily sedentary, but some inspection of cultural resources such as cemeteries and physical structures will be required.
  • Remote work arrangements are available for this position.
