EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

 

Who We Are:

The Arc is the nation's leading nonprofit advocating on behalf of and serving people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), their families, and the people who support them. The Arc's mission is to promote and protect the human rights of people with IDD and actively support their full inclusion and participation in the community throughout their lifetimes.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Executive Director is responsible for the successful leadership and management of the organization according to the strategic direction set by the Board of Directors (Board). The Executive Director reports to the Board and is responsible for the organization's consistent achievement of its mission and vision.

Exempt position.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsible for executive oversight of the organization's Strategic Plan as approved by the Board.

Responsible for the executive oversight of all agency policies and procedures as approved by the Board .

Ensures the Board is kept fully informed on the condition of the organization and all important factors influencing it. Attends board meetings and maintains open lines of communication with the Board.

Works closely with the Board to provide executive oversight of the agency's fiscal practices toward sound fiscal performance, effective resource utilization and maximizing efficiency of operations.

Responsible for executive oversight of all the agency's organizational structure and realigning or restructuring service delivery systems to maximize efficiency of operations, increase performance outcomes and improve the quality of services to individuals served through the use of best practices.

Responsible for executive oversight of the agency's human resources process for the recruitment, employment, and release of all personnel: paid staff, contracted staff, and volunteers.

Responsible for executive oversight of all accreditation, certification, and compliance requirements.

Responsible for executive representation of the agency in all marketing and public relations functions of the agency.

QUALIFICATIONS:
 
Required: Bachelor's degree in business, marketing, or non-profit management or another related field and/or experience.

He/she must have solid written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills. Other necessary skills include persuasion, strong attention to detail and ability to work effectively in a team environment, particularly with top executives. He/she must have excellent computer skills.
He/she must be a strategic thinker, flexible, self-directed, organized, goal orientated, able to handle multiple projects simultaneously and works well under pressure.

OTHER KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

He/she must have a professional demeanor and appearance. He/she must be friendly, caring and who has good communication and organizational skills in order to prioritize duties and meet deadlines as they arise. He/she must have a personal vehicle and a valid Georgia driver's license. He/she must have a working knowledge of The Arc of Southwest Georgia's Mission and Vision as well as the agency's programs and services. He/she must have a knowledge and understanding of the agency's accreditation process and its value to the organization.

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

The environment will be that of a typical office atmosphere. Some travel might be required.

JOB RELATIONSHIPS:

He/She will be supervised by the Board of Directors.

He/she will have minimal supervisory responsibilities over other employees as described above.
